How to smoothly install and uninstall Exchange 2 k
1. required knowledge
First, you must be able to plan the AD. You should be proficient in Operating Windows 2000 Server and can configure it. It should be configured and make sure that DNS works properly.
2. system environment before installation
Suppose you have installed Windows 2000 Server correctly, AD and DNS Server correctly, and IIS and its related components, SMTP and NNTP. These components are required for Exchange operation.
Suppose this computer is the first DC in your network, and it can run properly and smoothly. Here, I want to emphasize that you must ensure that the underlying structure of your AD refers to the five roles of the AD, especially the DC, GC, and SCHEMA, now we will install Exchange 2 K on this computer, but you must be a member of Administrator, Schema Admin, or Domain Administrator.
3. read this article.
Since there are many installation and deletion steps, I suggest you read the full text carefully and have an overall understanding of the entire description.
Start 4: Install Exchange 2 K
1. Place the Exchange 2 k installation disc into your optical drive here. Assume that the drive letter is G :). The automatic installation screen will pop out, but do not click the Exchange Server Setup button, this installation method is not the best. Please close this screen and I will show you more effective and personalized installation methods.
2. Start the doscommand line. In the command line mode, switch your current drive letter to the Exchange installation disk and enter the following subdirectory: G: \ SETUP \ I386.
3. Enter the command SETUP/FORESTPREP. Do not make an error. This command is the first step to install Exchange. It will write a large amount of information into your current Schema and Origination. This command fully integrates Exchange into AD.
4. Enter the command in step 2: SETUP/DOMAINPREP. Do not make an error. This step is to prepare for installing Exchange.
5. Enter the command "SETUP" in step 3. Select "custom installation" when selecting the installation type, and select only "Administrative Tools" when selecting the installed components.
6. Step 4: After the management tool is installed, you can create your AG management group) and RG routing group ), here you will find that you can name the management group randomly based on your company's actual situation and geographical distribution, which will be more in line with your actual situation, this is why I asked you to disable the automatic installation screen. Because if you use automatic installation, you will not be able to change the name of the Management Group, and the entire installation process will be very slow.
Step 7: Enter the command: SETUP. You can add components as needed.
If you haven't encountered any errors during the above installation steps, your Exchange should be running normally now. You should be able to see it in the Service, some services about Exchange are already running. Here I want to point out two key services: SYSTEM ATTENDENT, which is the bottom-layer service of Exchange. If this service is not running, your Exchange installation will fail; the other is the information store service. If this service is not running, you will not be able to see the M Disk automatically mapped by Exchange. Here, the data used by the user will be saved, and the Log files used by Exchange for data recovery .); This service depends on the system attendent service. If your DNS configuration is faulty, the two services may not work properly, because the normal operation of these two services requires the DNS support of WINDOWS 2000 Server. Other services, such as POP3, SMTP, and IMAP4, will be automatically started.
If an error occurs during the above installation process, or after the installation is complete, your Exchange cannot run normally, or an error event is generated in the event viewer, these should be within the scope of Troubleshooting, not in our discussion.
5. How to smoothly uninstall Exchange 2 K
We have to admit that we may encounter a very embarrassing situation: Exchange may no longer be available, which may be caused by multiple reasons, it may also be caused by your misoperation. We can only reinstall it. I think this is the best choice for reinstalling the entire system. Now let's talk about how to clean and delete Exchange from a DC.
1. Start the Active Directory user and computers tool, select all users who have mailboxes on this email server, right-click and choose "Exchange Tasks ", then select Delete Mailbox to Delete all users' mailboxes. If this action is not done, we will not be able to proceed to the next step. Insert your Exchange installation disc. When the installation screen appears, select the "Remove" option for the installed Component on the "Component Selection" screen.
2. We must stop all Exchange-related services, such:
Microsoft Exchange Event
Microsoft Exchange IMAP4
Microsoft Exchange Information Store
Microsoft Exchange Management
Microsoft Exchange Message Transfer Agent Stacks
Microsoft Exchange POP3
Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine
Microsoft Exchange Site Replication Service
Microsoft Exchange System Attendant
All these services need to be stopped.
3. After you stop all related services, you should note that many key values remain in the registry, so we will delete the following key values in the next step, before you modify the registry, we strongly recommend that you back up the Registry first to prevent unexpected situations. They are the following key values:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ ESE98
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Exchange
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ DAVEX
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ ESE98
NOTE: If your exchange has been sp2, this key value does not exist.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ EXIFS
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ ExIPC
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ EXOLEDB
Microsoft Exchange Directory Service to Metabase
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ MSExchangeMU
Microsoft Exchange Event
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ MSExchangeES
Microsoft Exchange IMAP4
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ IMAP4Svc
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ MSExchangeAL
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ MSExchangeDSAccess
Microsoft Exchange Information Store
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ MSExchangeIS
Microsoft Exchange Management
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ MSExchangeMGMT
Microsoft Exchange Message Transfer Agent Stacks
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ MSExchangeMTA
Microsoft Exchange POP3
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ POP3Svc
Microsoft Exchange Publish Free/Busy HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ MSExchangeFBPublish
Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ RESvc
Microsoft Exchange Site Replication Service
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ MSExchangeSRS
Microsoft Exchange System Attendant
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ MSExchangeSA
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ MSExchangeTransport
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ MSExchangeWEB
After deleting these key values, we will continue the next step.
(4) Delete the IIS component and the metabase. binfile, which is located in the sysroot \ system32 \ inetsrv directory.
5. Restart your computer.
6. After the startup is complete, rename your Exchange Directory exchsrvr or transfer it to another drive letter.
(7) re-install IIS components. Make sure that you have selected protocols such as SMTPSimple Mail Transfer Protocol and NNTPNetwork News Transport Protocol.
8. reinstall the system patches.
After the above steps, we have basically deleted the Exchange architecture and some software settings, but do not think this is all done, because the next step is the most critical, although it is easy to operate. Now we will delete the information about Exchange from the AD.
We need to use a tool that you can find in the Tools directory under the Windows 2000 installation CD. Please install the tool named adsi edit, in fact, there is also a tool that can do this, called LDP..
1. after installing this tool, start it, expand Domain NC [ServerName], expand DC = domainname, DC = com, right-click "CN = Microsoft Exchange system objects ", then select "property ". As shown in.
2. on the "Attributes" attribute page, Select "Heuristics" from the "Select a property to view" drop-down menu ".
3. Click "Clear", select "Apply", and select "OK" to close the window.
Note: In this step, if you click "Clear" and then click "Set" and then "Apply", the value will remain in the AD and will not be deleted.
Note: During the Process of deleting exchange, I did not perform the above step 1 Operations. Instead, I directly selected the Delete option in the shortcut menu during step 2 and deleted it directly. No exceptions occurred during the re-installation process. The reason why I mentioned Step 1 is that before I delete Exchange, I also referred to a large number of KB On Microsoft websites. One article mentioned this point, however, I think this step seems redundant, and I have not yet understood the reasons. If any one of my colleagues knows the principles, I hope to give them some advice .)
So far, all our deletion steps have been completed, and you can run the Exchange installer for a new installation. I hope you can proceed smoothly.
I hope you can provide some reference for some of the above experiences, but there may be some shortcomings. For more details, visit Microsoft's technical support website and refer to related technical support documents. Web site is http://support.Microsoft.com
