22 daily skills for programmers to improve their work efficiency, save time, and improve their work efficiency

I have been testing and adjusting various production efficiency technologies. In the past five years, I have read a lot of books (most of which are repetitive). Here are some of my conclusions:

This is not a question about time, but about energy.

To be "efficient", we try to squeeze as many hours as possible within one working day, but ultimately everything is more dependent on your attention, enthusiasm and good status (these are directly associated with the energy level), rather than working hours.

I recently mentioned my idea of improving efficiency in an internal presentation of grapefruit. The result demonstration is on Slideshare: producitivity porn.

Some key conclusions:

1.Decide what is importantBecause within five years, 80% of what you do now will not have any results. It's just useless and there is no useful result.

2.Sleep, diet, and exerciseIt can increase your results to three times, because they can help you increase your attention, motivation, and energy levels.

3.Two-minute rule:If you can finish one thing within two minutes (such as replying to an email or doing housework), do it now. It will take five or more minutes to complete it, remember it, and complete it in the future.

4.Five-minute rule:The best way to treat procrastination is not to set a goal to accomplish a terrible big task, but to spend only five minutes on that task. You will find that in most cases, it is still very smooth over five minutes, because you have entered a smooth period.

5.Seinfeld production chain:If you want to do one thing well, do it every day. Including Christmas, Easter, and trial days. No.

6.Tiny habits:In combination with the five-minute rule, you can quickly form good habits. This is useful. I have tested it.

7.Your memory is terrible.Even if you are a genius, you must clear everything from your mind. Write them in a notebook, put them in the to-do list application, remember them on your phone, or tell Siri that I don't care how you use them.

8.Use as few tools as possible. I have tested most event manager agents and eventually kept using the Thing app with the Cultured Code and Google Calendar (iCal is good, but Google Calendar works well with my default client Gmail ). If you understand the next rule, it doesn't matter what you use (a pencil or a pen is acceptable ).

9.Rules are better than tools. You need discipline, which means two things for me: The first thing I do every morning is to plan my day, and I write a short job log every day. This helps me stay awake, have a good priority, Remove useless tasks, and do meaningful things. This saves me a lot of time.

10.Tomato timer,This is a time box. Within 30 minutes, I only do what I have to do. I do not do anything else: No phone, email, no talking to others, no social networking websites. Except that you remember to run out of the building in case of a fire, nothing else.

11.Always with headphones. You do not need to listen to music, but it will prevent others from approaching you.

12.Mailbox scheduling and inbox resetting. Do not check your mailbox as the first thing you do in a day, or watch it at night (this has ruined many of my nights). Try checking it only three times a day: two o'clock P.M. AM, five o'clock P.M. AM, and am. Your inbox is not a to-do list. Clear it: Each email should be an operational task (link it with the to-do list) or a reference (send it to Evernote or archive ), or delete it now.

13.The same is true for mobile phones.. Do not always be contacted. I always mute my cell phone and call back in batches.

14.Batch small itemsSuch as email, phone, or facebook.

15.MI3, The three most important things (or something that must be done, three things that should be done, or five things that can be done ). Start to do the most important thing in the morning.

16.Limited willpower. Don't think that your willpower will help you when you are in trouble. Put the most important things in the morning and automate everything as much as possible (delegate, batch, etc ). The US President does not need to choose their menus and clothing colors every day, otherwise their willpower will run out later when they need to press (or not press) the red button.

17.The most driving thing. Always ask yourself what is the most driving thing you can do now, and then apply Rule 14.

18.Frequent launch of new products. Don't touch it too much. As they said in the entrepreneurial circle, "if you don't feel embarrassed about your products, you are too late to launch them ."

19.Stress can bring miracles. Use rewards or social commitments. We recently implemented this on the new grapefruit website. The previous website took two and a half years, and the new one only took two and a half days. We spent a weekend programming Marathon (plus Monday ).

20.Planned Delay. Your brain needs to rest, and sometimes the new issue of Green Arrow can create a bigger miracle than the best TED speech.

21.Delete, say no, ignore, do not stick to the calendar. I like the last point. It comes from Mark Andson, because it allows him to see anyone he wants immediately. In this way, many people hate you, but you have time to do things. Do you think you will regret it in 20 years? Or do something you don't care about for some people, just for superficial appreciation.

22.Pretend incompetent. This is a well-applied method.

This is the end of my drag and drop, and I want to go back to work.

Colin Shillingford believes in his reply that the best way to "save" time is to make full use of our time. We cannot create a time that does not exist before. What we can do is change the task priority or adjust the task order. Most of us have problems in this regard. In addition, Colin also recommended a very good tomato time management method in his reply. (Transfer)

Skills for improving work efficiency

1. Divide all work into two types: transactional and thinking:
There are only two types of jobs: transactional jobs do not require your brains, but you can follow the familiar procedures and do not have to worry about interference or interruption. Thinking jobs require you to concentrate on them, in one breath.
For transactional work, you can handle it in any order as planned; for thinking work, you must schedule the time carefully and proceed without being disturbed in a centralized manner.
For thinking-based jobs, the best way is not to do it in a hurry, but to keep thinking about it in daily work and life: Thinking during meals, thinking during sleep, thinking on the road, when you are on WC. When you wait for a certain amount of time to concentrate on your thinking, you will find that the results will be like spring water, and you will automatically seek help without any effort, all you have to do is record and sort them out!
2. regularly complete daily work:
You need to do some daily work every day to maintain necessary contact with others, or maintain a good working environment, including checking emails and communicating with colleagues or superiors, browse the BBS you must visit, clean and so on.
The best way to deal with these daily work is to do it at regular intervals: you can concentrate on these tasks at the scheduled time every day, either once or twice, it is usually arranged at the beginning of the morning or afternoon work, and at other times, do not think about it!
3. List the work plans and display the progress in an obvious way:
First, list the plans for this week at the beginning of each week. The content of the plan is what to do this week. Unless it is a task with strict time constraints, the weekly plan does not need to set the time for each task to be prepared, there is no need to describe the task details in detail. You only need some tips so that you do not forget the work you want to do this week;
Then, we will list the schedules every morning, select what we want to do for the day from the weekly plan, and arrange the specific time for completion. We will list all the calls and the content of each call. This schedule should be around you at any time, and you can see it with an eye up. It is like a loyal assistant who will tell you what to do next!
Finally, you must summarize the work plan. In fact, the work summary is ongoing at any time, and the method is extremely simple: Use a rough script to overwrite what you have done from the weekly plan and the daily schedule !! The other conclusion is that we have completed the daily and weekly schedules in a simple way: copy the unfinished work of the current day or the week to the plan of the next day or the next week!
4. Do not hesitate or wait and act immediately;
This is an important supplement to the above three items: Do not hesitate and wait, and act immediately. No job will automatically disappear because you leave it, and no worries will disappear because you don't think about it. You have no choice but to face and meet any challenges.
5. Arrange spare tasks that can be performed at any time, so as not to waste your time
The best way to deal with the blank time is to prepare a backup task in advance, and use this time to do (not complete) It! This standby task requires the following features: it does not require a lot of mental power to think; it can start at any time, it can be interrupted at any time, and it can be continued next time; there is no time pressure, you don't have to finish it at a certain time; it can bring you some fun. Such jobs include browsing newspapers, magazines, reading useful but non-Professional Books, viewing online news, and visiting websites of interest, beautify the work you have completed (such as organizing documents, modifying the drawing design), organizing documents, and cutting the customer list into small pieces.

How can we improve work efficiency and save time?

Don't just say, get started
Create a work list
Write down what you want to do at any time, and everything is clear at a glance. Note: Prioritize, first do important things, and focus more on efficiency and effectiveness. Set and pay attention to the deadline, just like a commitment to yourself. Specifically, if it is too large, it will be broken down into simple work.
