But the World Wide Web is not static. It is dynamic, and in the midst of rapid change, hundreds of websites appear every day. You really want to miss the fun? Aren't you curious about the new sites? What services do they offer? If you're sticking with tracking and looking for things that are very interesting, similar sites are a good way to find new sites. It's time to start a new online tour: Use the services listed below to open your horizons and find more interesting websites!

Note: To test these services fairly, I've looked at a number of websites like Facebook, and of course MakeUseOf (and louishan.com--translators) to see what they offer.

Websites like

Websites like boasts "the largest public similarity site index", using their own algorithms to find similar sites based on linked addresses or keywords. In my test, Websites like to support Facebook, suggesting that websites include Twitter, MySpace, and Orkut, among others. When I entered MakeUseOf, it suggested that I try WordPress, Microsoft, and IBM to discover similar sites. The only comparable site that is offered is HowStuffWorks.

The translator's test of louishan.com.

Advantages: Support address and keywords, large site is very accurate.

Disadvantage: No similarity score, smaller site is not accurate.

Similar Sites

Another well-designed option, Similar Sites offers a service that is not limited to similar site searches. After entering the URL address, Similar Sites will provide a list of similar sites with similar scores, as well as a site with similar access to a list of sites that visitors to your query also visit, as well as other useful information. In my test, Similar Sites a good test of Facebook, offering MySpace, Twitter and YouTube as a similar site, while providing thefacebook.com's old Facebook name. The MakeUseOf test is also good, providing Lifahacker, Howtogeek and Downloadsquad for similar sites, all exact matches, although Downloadsquad no longer exists.

The translator's test of louishan.com is also good, with similar sites including opensourceinstall.org, Google, Taiwan and Lou blogs.

Advantages: Not only to provide similar sites, similarity, precision scoring, to provide almost all the mainstream browser expansion.

Disadvantage: When you click into the site will appear as the top bar, will also provide a non-existent site.

Similar Site Search

Similar Site Search is the standard choice for those who prefer simplicity. Although the interface is very concise, it can quickly provide a very accurate list of similar sites. One killer feature is automatic completion--when you enter a site, Similar site Search gives you options. In my tests, Similar Site Search was incredibly good for Facebook and MakeUseOf's tests. This is the only one of my tests that has Google + as a Facebook-like site, and for MakeUseOf, it offers Lifehacker, Freewaregenius, addictive Tips, and so on.

Unfortunately, the translator's test of louishan.com indicates that this service is not generally bad for non-English language site support.

Advantages: Very accurate, automatic completion, can be graded on the similarity, simple interface.

Cons: Ancient design, if this disturbs you.

XMarks

More famous for Bookmark extension services, XMarks also offers similar web search services based on URLs and keywords. You do not need to install extensions to use, after entering the site, use the search box on the right side of the page. XMarks provides automatic complement functionality for both keywords and URLs, which is very convenient. In my tests, XMarks had a good test of Facebook and MakeUseOf, although Google + wasn't on Facebook's list of similar sites. The MakeUseOf list includes Lifehacker, Howtogeek, Ghacks, Engadget, and so on.

The translator's test to louishan.com is unsatisfactory, listed similar sites are such as Liang Hongda, Tonga Li, Shi Shusi Sina, NetEase blog.

Advantages: Very accurate, including site reviews and ratings, support URLs and keywords, automatic completion.

Disadvantage: The similarity degree cannot be graded.

Similicio.us

If you have a clear understanding of the famous similar sites and want to find some new sites, try Similicious. Similicious uses its own algorithm to search for similar sites, and the results are largely invisible in other services. When I entered MakeUseOf, I got a list of 28 sites, of which I had only heard of 5, although it contained large sites such as ReadWriteWeb and Howtogeek, which were at the end of the list. Some of the previous results include small technical blogs that I haven't heard of, such as Sizlopedia and Solutionwatch. Although this is exciting, when I test Facebook, I offer some of the less obvious sites and most of them don't exist. =

The translator's test of louishan.com does not understand Chinese.

Advantages: To be able to highlight small sites.

Disadvantage: Those small sites can not be maintained, no similarity scoring function.

Google Similar Pages [Chrome]

Google Similar pages is Google's release of the Chrome extension, using Google algorithm to find similar pages. The extension is still in the early stages of testing, so it's not perfect, but if you're using Chrome it's a good way to look for similar sites. This extension will add a button to the Chrome toolbar and you can click on the button to find a similar site for the current page. As you can see, my test results for MakeUseOf are very precise (PCMag, Lifehacker, Majorgeeks, CNET), but no preview is available. I can't test for Facebook because Google Similar Pages do not support secure links (https://).

The translator to Louishan.com's test, really is very miserable, the Google big God spared me.

Advantages: Easy to use, very accurate.

Disadvantage: Only suggestions are available, and there are still a number of test bugs.
