1. About data registration

ArcGIS 10.1 for server is the latest GIS server technology. Compared with version 10.0, ArcGIS 10.1 has greatly improved service correctness, reliability, and stability, data registration is an effective method to ensure the correctness and reliability of services.

The so-called data registration is to register the data path referenced by the service to the arcgisserver site to ensure that all the GIS servers on the site can access the path correctly, so as to ensure the validity and reliability of the service data.

The data paths that can be registered include folders, file Geodatabase, and ArcSDE databases. The local path or network path can be used for folders and file databases. If you use a local path, make sure that each GIS server on the site has the same local path. If it is a network path, make sure that each machine can access the path. The biggest advantage of using a local path is that the access speed is the fastest. The advantage of using a network path is that it is easy to maintain and manage, but there may be network access bottlenecks.

2. Problems and Solutions

In fact, data registration is very simple and can be completed through arccatalog or ArcGIS Server Manager. The operation interface is as follows: the specific operation is not detailed here. It is nothing more than clicking the button and selecting a path. For example, if you select a path and click OK, the failure dialog box is displayed, for example:

Inexplicably, check the folder permissions and find that there is no problem. It is already a complete permission. Therefore, if you try to add the file GDB path directly, the error is the same.

Change the local path to the network path, and try again as follows. The error is the same: in another way, use the Database Registration Method for file GDB, for example: or report an error, for example:

The registration fails as much as possible. So I asked my colleague to perform a test and there was no problem on his machine! He was also ridiculed as a result of the RP problem. It is a tragedy ~

Calm down and carefully consider the possible reasons:

Permission;

License: the license has not expired. It should not be the same as that used by colleagues;

Data: all folders on the local machine cannot be registered, and GDB cannot be registered. It should not be a data problem;

System: the operating system is the same as that of colleagues. It is Windows 7. This is probably not the reason;

Environment: My colleague's ArcGIS Server is a single machine, and my ArcGIS Server is a cluster. Wait! Is this the reason?

After careful analysis, there are three machines in my site, two of which are not added to any machine and are not started. Data registration, in essence, is to register data to the site, to ensure that all machines on the site can effectively access data.

There are two solutions to this problem: first, start the other two machines, add them to the cluster, and ensure that they can all access the data path to be registered; the second is to remove the other two machines from the site, so that there is only one GIS server on the local machine.

After analyzing the possible causes and countermeasures, I chose the simplest solution to remove the other two machines from the site. After the removal, only one machine is left on the site, for example: register the folder and file Geodatabase!

Click "validate all". Both paths are verified, indicating that the data is successfully registered and verified.

OK, this strange RP problem is solved!
