A study on the number of ffmpeg threads and the efficiency of transcoding

Source: Internet
Author: User

FFmpeg can specify the number of threads to use when transcoding.

And for the same source, using the same transcoding machine, in the end how to configure the number of threads to achieve better efficiency, we did a simple experiment, the results are as follows:

Transcoding machine:

4 Nuclear 8 thread HP DL380 G7 server.

Thread is the number of threads per task, task is the number of transcoding tasks that run concurrently, time is time-consuming, and e is the average time per task (Time/task)

Can see, run 8 threads, concurrent run 2 task efficiency highest.

Basically, we can conclude that the number of task threads = the number of CPU threads is more efficient, while the CPU is not full, if this concurrent run 2 of transcoding tasks, you can get the best efficiency.
