With the addition of the camera raw filter in the new version of Photoshop CC, we can use the Grayscale/HSL panel in the camera raw filter and the detach tone panel to complete the process of processing a photo in black and white and adding a separate tonal effect. This operation is also non-destructive and can be changed at any time according to our needs. More importantly, we can do this at any time during the adjustment process without having to enter the ACR edit mode through the "open as" command in the traditional way when the file is opened.
Operation Steps
01 Open File
Execute the File > Open command to open this photo. Follow the window > Layers command to open the Layers panel, select the background layer, perform the filter > convert to Smart Filter command to convert the layer to a smart object, and then execute the filter >camera raw Filter command to open the Cameraraw dialog box.
02 Adjustable Tone
Open the hsl/grayscale panel, and check the Convert to Grayscale option to process the photo in black and white. We can use the option slider provided below to control the sensitive performance of the converted colors based on the original color information of the screen. Set the blue to 33 to deepen the sky and spray, then set the yellow to +50 brighten the island with the foreground of the reef.
03 Separation Tones
Enter the separation tonal panel, set the high light part hue slider to 65, saturation set to 50, so that the high light hue performance is yellow-green. The shaded part Hue slider is set to 300, the saturation is set to 15, so that the shaded hue is purple and the color contrast of the shading is enriched.
04 Adjusting Balance
We can change the proportions of the shadow and the highlight color in the picture through the middle balance slider. The slider moves to the left, and the ratio of the blue-purple shadow to the screen increases accordingly. For this piece, it is more suitable to set it to the right to +22, increase the proportion of yellow light in the screen.
