Allow RHEL5 to support memory larger than 4 GB

There is a PC, and the Dell poweredge 755 system uses the original 1 GB memory of Rhel5 update1. Now we need to install 4 GB memory. After inserting 2 GB memory, check that the motherboard recognizes 4 GB memory, but RHEL5 can only recognize 3G a little more. In this case, we need to install the PAE kernel.

1. First install the pae kernel,

# Rpm-ivh kernel-PAE-2.6.18-53.el5.i686.rpm

2. Modify the startup option to enable the system to start with the pae kernel.

# Vim/boot/grub/menu. lst

Default = that line. If the PAE kernel is in the first line, it is changed to default = 0.

3. Restart linux. At this time, you should be able to see 4 GB memory.
