AOL launches paid search service using Google technology

According to foreign media reports, Time Warner AOL recently said that it will launch a paid search service named "AOL search market" for advertisers next Monday. The service will use Google's AdWords technology, this helps advertisers better understand the online habits of AOL users.
In December 2005, Google purchased an AOL stake worth up to $1 billion. According to the agreement reached at that time, the ad links using Google AdWords technology will appear on the AOL search page. AOL said that "AOL search market" is actually a customized version of AdWords, which allows advertisers to better understand the habits of AOL search users. Analysts said that the launch of the "AOL search market" will help AOL to earn more text advertising revenue beyond the business types such as bar ads.
According to data released by Internet traffic data analysis company comScore Media Metrix, the total number of AOL searches in February this year was 0.311 billion. Mike Kelly, president of AOL Media Network, said it is necessary for AOL to expand the overall capacity of its search business as advertisers spend more. Since the summer of last year, AOL has gradually opened up the original charging content, and thus changed its market strategy from the original charging mode for registered users to the free mode. During the fourth quarter of 2006, AOL's online advertising revenue was nearly $2 billion, up 49% year on year.
Although AOL had a large online advertising business, it had obviously fallen behind in the paid search field. Google has gained an industry advantage by virtue of its text search technology. Jupiter Research, a market Research firm, said that during the 2006 S, Google accounted for 25% of total online advertising spending in the United States, while AOL was only 8%. Kelly also said that "AOL search market" does not currently include the AOL video search service, but will include it in the future.
