Objective

With the popularity of iOS development, there have been a number of companies offering specialized solutions or tools for all aspects of iOS development. These solutions or tools include: User behavior statistics tool (Friends League, Flurry,google Analytics, etc.), App Store sales analytics tools (e.g. App Annie), app crash collection tools (e.g. Crashlytics), App test release tool (Test Flight), app push service, and more.

These solutions or tools save a lot of development time for iOS developers, but because of the lack of a related introductory article, many developers are repeating their own wheels again and again. So I hope that I will use and research the relevant third-party services use experience, organized into a series of articles, so that the vast number of developers can save a lot of repetitive work.

Today's introduction to the AppStore Statistics tool: App Annie and Apple's command-line statistics tool.

About App Annie

Apple's official itunes Connect provides a weak statistical function for sales data, such as the ability to store detailed sales data for the last 30 days, an ugly interface, and the ability to view the app's ranking history.

AppAnnie is a statistical analysis tool specifically designed for developers on AppStore-related data. The tool can count the amount of downloads, changes in rankings, sales revenue and user reviews of the app in AppStore.

Principle

The AppAnnie is implemented by using your configured admin account to request data about your app from itunes Connect, including daily downloads, user scoring data, and sales data.

Register for Sales Type account

With AppAnnie, you first need to configure a sales type account in Apple's official itunes Connect. Because the default developer account is the admin level permission, this permission is very high, you can modify the price of the app or directly under the shelf product. If this account is directly configured in the AppAnnie, although it does not affect the access to relevant data, but there is a certain security risk of the account.

The detailed steps to configure this account are as follows:

1. Log in to itunes Connect and select Manager Users

2. Select itunes Connect User

3. Click Add New User

4, fill in the relevant information of the new user

5, tick the user type is Sales

6, select notifications for all notifications. Click on the location indicated in the image to select all.

7. After that, you will receive an activation email from itunes Connect in your mailbox. Click on the activation link in the email to access the Account Registration screen, then register the account to activate. If the mailbox has already registered an Apple Id, it will go to the login screen and be activated when you sign in.

Sign up for App Annie's account and configuration

Open App Annie's official website: http://www.appannie.com/, the steps to register the steps and the general website, I will not introduce, after the registration is completed the configuration steps are as follows:

1. Add itunes Connect account in the Setup page

2. Fill in your previous account and password for the sales type added in itunes Connect

3. Check the daily report on the user setting

Official command-line tools

If you feel that you are handing out your sales data to a third-party statistical service provider, some are less secure. Consider using Apple's official Autoingestion.class tool to get daily sales data and then save it to a local database.

The following describes the use of this tool, after downloading the autoingestion.class, switch to the class file in the same directory, execute the following command, you can get the corresponding statistics:

1	java Autoingestion <帐号名> <密码> <vendorId> <报告类型> <时间类型> <报告子类型> <时间>

Where the vendor ID is obtained in itunes Connect as shown, is a sequence beginning with a number 8.

< report type > Optional value is: Sales or Newsstand

< time type > Optional values are: Daily, Weekly, Monthly or yearly

< report subtype > Optional values are: Summary, detailed, or opt-in

< time > given in the following format: YYYYMMDD

Here is an example that will get the daily sales summary data for May 8, 2013.

I tried the tool, I think it is too rough, just to back up the sales data, if you want to do appannie, such as statistical reports, but also need to write a lot of code. And, unlike App Annie, the tool also provides the App store's ranking changes. Although you can do the crawl yourself, but also need to work.

Other services like App Annie

Other services like App Annie include: Appfigures. After I tried it, I found it was not as powerful as app Annie. But as an alternative, it is also introduced to you.

There are also some open-source statistical tools on GitHub, and interested friends can try. These tools are basically enhancements to Apple's command-line tools, such as adding data to the database for medium functionality.

function comparison

Both App Annie and Apple itself provide command-line tools that can count the App store's data, but they don't have the same functionality. Apple's command-line tools can only provide statistics and backups of sales data by day, week, month, year, and so on. In addition to providing these features with a better interface and interactivity, App Annie tracks app rankings and the app's position in Apple's various lists.

It is recommended that you try the statistical tools such as App Annie or Appfigures to help you easily see the sales and rankings of your app.
