Window family of the operating system, the runtime starts a process named Explorer.exe. This process is mainly responsible for displaying the icons on the system desktop and the taskbar, which have different magical functions in different systems, let's take a look.

The application of Windows9x

In windows9x, this process is required to run the system. If you end the Explorer.exe process with the "End Task" method, the system refreshes the desktop and updates the registry. So, we can also use this method to quickly update the registry. The method is as follows:

Press the Ctrl+alt+del key combination to show the End Task dialog box. The "Close Windows" dialog box appears when you select the Explorer option in the dialog box, and then click the End Task button. When you click the No button, a second dialog box appears and tells you that the program is not responding and asks if you want to end the task. Click the End Task button to update the registry and return to the WINDOWS9X system environment. This is more convenient than the cumbersome restart process?

The application of WINDOWS2000/XP

In Windows2000/xp and other windowsnt kernel systems, the Explorer.exe process is not necessary for the system to run, so you can use Task Manager to end it, does not affect the normal work of the system, but can subtly achieve "confidential + personalized + acceleration" The role of the system. Do you have a itch? Get ready, come with me (take Windows2000 Pro version for example)
Open the program you want to run, such as Notepad. Then right click on the taskbar, select Task Manager, select the Processes tab, select the Explorer.exe process in the window, click the End Process button, as shown in Figure 1, next to the desktop except for wallpaper (except for Active Desktop Active Desktop), All the icons and taskbar are gone. At this point you can still operate all the software as usual. When you need to leave the computer for a while, and do not want others to operate your computer, but set the password is too embarrassing, use the above method can play a certain degree of secrecy effect. Of course, you can still rerun the Explorer.exe with the Task Manager's new task, but for the average user, this secrecy is enough-after all, there are still a lot of rookies!

What if you want to run other software, but there is nothing over the desktop at this time? Don't worry, there are two clever ways to open other software:

The first method: Press the Ctrl+alt+del key combination, the Windows Security dialog box appears, click the Task Manager button (or press the CTRL+SHIFT+ESC key combination), select the Application tab in the Task Manager window, click New Task, In the pop-up "Create New Task" dialog box, enter the path and name of the software you want to open.

You can also select "file → open" on the running software, and in the Open dialog box, click on the "file type" Drop-down list, select "All Files", then browse to the software you want to open, right-click it, select "Open" on the shortcut menu to start the software you need, as shown in Figure 2. Note that it is not possible to open the software at this time by clicking the Open button, which applies to most software, except for the Office family.

You can also copy common software and Explorer.exe programs to the desktop, in the "Open" dialog box "Look in" to select "desktop", you can use the above method, quickly open other software and desktop.

By ending the Explorer.exe process, you can also reduce the amount of memory used by the system around 4520KB, which will undoubtedly speed up the operation of the system, freeing up valuable space for users with tight resources.
Tip: Restart Explorer. EXE process, some software in the taskbar system Tray small icon will be message, but the software is still in normal operation. If you find it inconvenient, you can open the software again to display small icons.
