1 in the Arccatalog directory tree, expand the Database Connections folder.
2) Double-click Add Spatial database Connection to open the Spatial database Connection Properties dialog box.
3 in the Server text box, enter the name or IP address;
4 in the Service text box, enter a name or port number. If you want to connect to a space database for a user scenario in an Oracle database, enter a port number and schema, separated by a colon, for example: 5151:geodata.
5 If the data is stored in SQL Server, IBM DB2, Informix, or PostgreSQL relational database, in the Database text box, enter the name of the pre-connected databases. The Oracle database skips this step.
6 If you use database authentication, enter the username and password of the database. You need to save the user and password, check "Save the username and password with this connection file", otherwise do not save.
7 if using the operating system authentication, click the "Operating system Authentication" button. Database authentication is not available.
8 If you use a schema database for a user of Oracle or use the DBO-SCHEMA database in SQL Server, you must change the "Connection Details" section in the Properties dialog box to select the space database version from the transaction version list.
9 If You don't want to save the version connection information your provided in the last step, uncheck Save the Versio n with the connection file. If you do not save the version's connection information, remove the check before "save" with the connection file.
10) Click the "Test Connection" button to perform a connection test. Test is successful, the "Test Connection" button is grayed out, otherwise you will not be able to get the data from the database.
11) Click the OK button.
12 Enter the database connection name.
13) Carriage return.

2. Direct-attached Oracle spatial database
The following will introduce three ways to connect directly to an Oracle spatial database: First, use database authentication to connect directly to Oracle spatial databases; second, use the operating system authentication to connect directly to Oracle spatial database; Third, how to link to the spatial database of a user scheme.
Direct connection to Oracle space database using database authentication
1 in the Arccatalog directory tree, expand the Database Connections folder.
2) Double-click to add Spatial Database Connection.
3 server, enter the name or IP address;
4 Service, enter the connection string according to the Oracle client version. Connect oracle9i, enter: "Sde:oracle9i"; Connect Oracle 10g, enter: "sde:oracle10g"; Oracle 11g, Input: "sde:oracle11g".
5 User name, enter the username.
6 Password, enter password and Oracle Network service name, format: SDE @oradb.
7) Click the OK button.
8 Enter the database connection name.
9) Carriage return.
Direct connection to Oracle space database using operating system authentication
1) Double-click the Database Connections folder in the Catalog tree.
2) Double-click Add Spatial Database Connection.
3 in the Server text box, type the name of the server on which the Oracle database resides.
4 If you ' re connecting to Oracle9i, in the Service text box, type ' sde:oracle9i:/; Local=<sql_net_alias> ".
If you are ' re connecting to Oracle 10g, type ' sde:oracle10g:/; Local=<sql_net_alias> ".
The SQL Net alias is set when your computer is configured to use a direct connection. Contact your system administrator if you don't know what value to substitute here.
5 Click The operating system authentication button. The database authentication information becomes unavailable.
6) Click OK.
7) Type A new name for the spatial database connection.
8) Press Enter.
Connect to a space database for a specified user
1) Double-click the Database Connections folder in the Catalog tree.
2) Double-click Add Spatial Database Connection.
3 in the Server text box, type the name of the server on which the Oracle database resides.
4 If you are connecting to Oracle9i, in the Service text box, type "sde:oracle9i:/:<schema_name>".
If you are connecting to Oracle 10g, type "sde:oracle10g:/:<schema_name>".
5) Type your user name in the User Name text box.
6) Type your password, followed by @<oracle Network Service Name&gt, in the Password text box.
7) uncheck Save username and password if you don ' t want your login information saved with the connection.
8 Spatial database connections are made to the SDE. Default version by default. You are must to a user-schema version. Click the Connection details section.
9 When the Connection Details dialog box opens, choose the version of the User-schema geodatabase to which Connect. This could is <schema>. DEFAULT or any other version of that geodatabase. For example, if the schema the Geodatabase are in Tubor, and you want to connect to the Qa77 version, choose Tubor.qa77 From the transactional version list.
Click OK on the Connection Details dialog box to close it.
One) Click OK.
Type a new name for the spatial database connection.
Press Enter.
3. Direct-attached SQL Server spatial database
can use a direct connection for a ArcSDE geodatabase stored in SQL Server. When reading the steps, note this there are slight differences in how to make this direct connection based on the type of ArcSDE Geodatabase.
1) Double-click the Database Connections folder in the Catalog tree.
2) Double-click Add Spatial Database Connection.
3 in the Server text box, type the name of the server on which the SQL Server database resides.
4 to connect to a ArcSDE geodatabase on a default instance of SQL Server, type the following in the Service text box: "Sde:sqlserver:<name or IP address of the server>".
To connect to a ArcSDE geodatabase on a named instance of SQL Server, type the following in the Service text box: "SDE:SQ Lserver:<name or IP address of the server>\<instance_name>.
If connecting to a ArcSDE geodatabase on SQL Server Express, type the following in the Service text box: "sde:sqlserver:& Lt;server_name>\<instance_name> ".
Note:you could also create a spatial database connection to a ArcSDE geodatabase on SQL Server Express by right-clicking The geodatabase under the Database Servers node and clicking.
5) Type The name of the database to which you want to connect in the database text box.
6) If Using database authentication, type your user name and password.
Note:you cannot use database authentication for a connection to a ArcSDE geodatabase in a database server (an instance O F SQL Server Express).
7) uncheck Save username and password if you don't want your login information saved with the connection.
8 IF using operating system authentication, click the operating system authentication button. The database authentication information becomes unavailable.
9 If You are connecting to a ArcSDE geodatabase with a dbo schema, you must change the transactional version to DBO.D Efault rather than SDE. DEFAULT.
For instructions on connecting to a different version of the database, and the connecting to a specific version of the Databas E.
Click OK.
Type a new name for the spatial database connection.
Press Enter.
