Like the long-standing obstacle that plagued Google, Baidu's first overseas expansion also encountered domain name disputes. The Beijing-based company established the Japanese site www.baidu.jp last month, but now it has a ghost www.baidu.co.jp.
This simple website represents the CBC Japanese company. On the top of the homepage, there is a message saying that their company has nothing to do with Baidu, Japan. It is a legal Japanese company.
The home page also contains four links pointing to different departments: an imported watch company, a second-hand car company, a Chinese restaurant, and an industrial waste company. In addition, the website also has a Chinese translation link and a user blog link.
The Japanese intellectual property Arbitration Center website (http://www.ip-adr.gr.jp) posted a complaint from Baidu that last month the center ruled that the CBC domain name should be transferred to Baidu. Baidu's representative declined to comment, and CBC officials did not contact him.
