12. The buffer size. Sometimes called packet buffer size, it is a queue structure that is used by LAN switches to coordinate the speed matching components between different network devices. Burst data can be stored in a buffer until it is processed by a slow device. Buffer size should be moderate, too large buffer space will affect the normal communication state packet forwarding speed (because too large buffer space requires a relatively little bit of addressing time), and increase the cost of equipment. And too small buffer space in the event of congestion and easy to lose the packet error. Therefore, the appropriate buffer space plus the advanced buffer scheduling algorithm is a reasonable way to solve the buffer problem. Therefore, for network backbone devices, the following points need to be noted in terms of buffer size.

(1) Whether each port has an independent buffer space, and the working state of the buffer space will not affect the state of other port buffering;

(2) Whether the module or port is designed with an independent input buffer, an independent output buffer, or an input/output buffer;

(3) Whether it has a series of buffer management scheduling algorithms, such as Red, wred, Rr/fq and WERR/WEFQ.

13. Maximum MAC Address Table size. Each port or device connected to the LAN requires a MAC address that other devices use to locate specific ports and update routing tables and data structures. The MAC address is 6 bytes long and is assigned by IEEE, also called the physical address. The MAC Address Table size of a device reflects the maximum number of nodes that can be supported by the device.

14. Maximum number of power supplies. In general, the core equipment provides a redundant power supply, after a power failure, the other power supply can continue to power, does not affect the normal operation of the equipment. When there are multiple power supplies, pay attention to the use of multi-channel mains supply, so that when the line fails, other lines can still power. A high-end LAN switch is a core device for a large network, and it must be available to ensure its availability, and therefore has power redundancy. In addition, the table-type LAN switch also provides AC power sockets and DC power sockets, the user should pay attention to DC power supply voltage is in line with your requirements.

15. Support protocols and standards. The protocol and standard content supported by LAN switch directly determines the network adaptability of LAN switch. These agreements and standards generally refer to the networking specifications and equipment standards established by the International Organization for Standardization.
