CNGI-CERNET2 proposed and determined the "using domestic IPv6 core router to build a large backbone network" major technical decision, design and development of China's first large-scale use of domestic core router of the national backbone network.

CNGI-CERNET2 backbone network using domestic equipment networking, using large-scale dynamic interoperability testing technology, found and solved a series of technical difficulties of interoperability in domestic core routers, and accumulated a series of valuable experience and network deployment principles:

1. the physical layer achieves the connection between the core router and the Access Router at a rate of Gbps. It avoids the compromise of the transmission bottleneck caused by the reduction of GE because the domestic devices do not currently support 10 Gbit/s lines;

2. The point-to-point data link layer can only use the PPP protocol, rather than non-standard HDLC protocol. The implementations of the latter are inconsistent with those of different vendors;

3. The network layer routing configuration adopts mainstream routing protocols, such as OSPF. Use the default configuration options whenever possible. Special optimization is not recommended in the environment where devices of multiple vendors are interconnected;

4. The unified network management system only uses the largest convention MIB set implemented by all routers to ensure smooth operation of the network management system.

After two years of operation, Huawei Technology Co. Ltd. and biwei Network Technology Co. Ltd., the core router manufacturers of IPv6 in China, hold that CNGI-CERNET2, as the first large-scale pure IPv6 network in China, has a large network interconnection scale, it has many interface types, rich features, and complicated applications.

CNGI-CERNET2 provides a good test environment and large-scale IPv6 network in the complex network technical specifications requirements, effectively promote the development of domestic manufacturers original technology, it effectively promotes domestic IPv6 High-performance routers in large-capacity high-speed interfaces, large-capacity non-blocking switching networks, high-speed IPv6 packet forwarding processing chips, storage management and queue scheduling, IPv6 software operating system platform, IPv6 Service quality control, IPv6 core routing protocol, IPv6 network management technology, IPv6 Multicast technology, IPv6 transition technology, stability and reliability research, development and industrialization process, the domestic IPv6 network equipment has reached or exceeded the level of similar foreign products, increased the domestic brand position, thus occupying an important share in the domestic and foreign IPv6 markets such as CNGI.

CNGI-CERNET2 has become an open experimental environment for China to carry out research on next-generation Internet and its application, and has become a key infrastructure for researching next-generation Internet technology, developing major applications, and promoting industrial development, it has greatly promoted the research and development of next-generation Internet network equipment in China and the Development of IPv6 network equipment in China, promoted the upgrading of the domestic communication industry, and played a positive role in the national scientific and technological progress.
