Canonical discloses the new Ubuntu Software Store. Through the Software Store, Canonical wants to merge all the different package managers into a single, unified interface.
This ambitious goal is unlikely to be achieved on Ubuntu 9.10. However, Canonical hopes that it will eventually replace the update manager, Synaptic, janitor program, and other package management-related programs to integrate all of this into the Ubuntu Software Store, it makes it easier for new end users to use a single program to process all the above functions. The Canonical program Software Store version 1.0 only provides basic addition and deletion functions. In future versions, it will gradually replace Synaptic, janitor, gdebi, and even update the manager. The Software Store is written using Python, GTK, and Aptdaemon and hosted on Launchpad using the gnu gpl v3 license.
