In 70 million, the media reported that China Unicom plans to invest yuan to build a WiMax test network in 21 provinces with the right to use the GHz band. In this regard, some insiders told Netease technology that, the feasibility of large-scale network construction with WiMax technology in the 70 million GHz band is very low. The investment of Yuan is also too small for the trial network scale in 21 provinces.

A person from a carrier in Guangdong told Netease that the right to use the GHz band in China has been used for three tenders, it has already been implemented by basic operators including China Telecom, China Netcom, China Mobile, China Unicom, and China tietong, businesses are not carried out in the GHz band. The biggest reason is that the radio signal attenuation in the band is too high and the effective coverage of the signal is too small.

Most of the WiMax test networks in China are in the GHz band, and their signal ranges can cover the largest residential area, which is similar to that of a 3G base station. The US expects the WiMax service to be commercially available this year to be based on the GHz band, while some Korean companies are trying to commercially use the GHz band. "If WiMax is operated in the GHz band, the coverage of the signal is approximately as large as that of one room, which is of no practical commercial value ." The person said, "Even if South Korea is currently commercially available at 2.3 GHz, the signal coverage is not ideal, and it has to go outside to provide signals. WiMax technology is not very mature yet ".

In addition to technical and frequency band problems, domestic operators still have policy controls for operating WiMax. According to the Ministry of Information Industry, domestic broadband access services can only be operated by fixed network operators. Even for wireless broadband access services, mobile operators cannot be commercially available on a large scale. At present, although China Mobile has activated Wi-Fi wireless LAN access services in some regions, it is based on its indoor base stations and cannot be widely promoted. "At present, China Unicom's business operations are based on the MHz frequency band, while China Mobile is the 890MHz ~ If the bandwidth is between MHz, any operation beyond this frequency band is illegal ." However, the investigational network is not listed here.

In addition, this person also revealed that, according to the current test network construction prices provided by equipment vendors, the price for building a wireless broadband test network WiMax covering 10 households is about 1.9 million yuan, if a large number of pilot networks are established in 21 provinces, the investment is huge. "70 million yuan is actually not enough for laying optical fiber cables. It is too little for such a large-scale experimental network ". However, before WiMax technology is completely mature, it is very dangerous to invest heavily in experiments.
