Due to work relationships, I often need to interview programmers. Every time I ask them a question: how do you plan your career? Many people don't know how to answer this question, or simply say what you want to do. The reason for this question is to check whether this person has a sense of direction and a clear understanding of himself. On the other hand, as a company, after understanding the employee's career plan, it can provide some help in line with the company's interests.

The importance of career planning cannot be too much. Career Planning is like walking. Don't just bow your head and hurry up. Before you go, you should first figure out where you are going, in addition, when walking, you should often stop and think about where you are, correct your route appropriately, and learn to ask for directions when you are confused, instead of walking with a stuffy head, when you reach the end point, you will find that it is not your place, and your career planning is to prevent you from reaching the end point, but you will find the wrong path. Many people know the discussion about programmers after the age of 30, in fact, there is no reason for career planning.

Career planning abroad is a required course for universities, but not in China. It is a pity that only employment guidance courses are required. Books about specific technologies or methods are everywhere in the Chinese book market, but few books about career planning are available, not to mention books on career planning for programmers.

Therefore, the publication of Gao Yang's "I can also do the CTO career planning" can be said to fill this gap. This is a book you can use to ask for directions, although I have different opinions on some of the ideas in my book, I think this book is a book worth reading carefully by every programmer. In the book, the author uses conversations with several people to describe the capabilities required by some roles and how they can be achieved. In addition, the author cited the topic and cited the ideas behind it from different perspectives, I can see that the author has a deep understanding of the ancient Chinese culture, from Yi Jing, Lao Tzu's Tao Jing, to Sun Tzu's Art of War, it can be seen from the book that the author is eager to share his many years of experience with everyone.

Unlike other books about technology, this book contains the ideas and philosophies that many authors have learned during their years of work. Although it is a book about the programmer's career, however, I did not only talk about technology, but also about non-technical knowledge that is very important to everyone, such as the cultivation of four kinds of business numbers and ways of doing things for others, these are exactly the capabilities that I think are most important to a person's growth.

In this book, the author uses a dialogue with several virtual figures to explain some of his insights into his career planning. There are two advantages to doing so: first, through dialogue, you can easily tell your experiences over the years. Second, this situational dialogue can be used to create potential, so that readers can gain an immersive experience and interest in reading, so that readers can learn and think about the characters in the book while reading.

Any book has its own shortcomings. This book is no exception. The shortcomings of this book include the following:

First of all, the bad thing about this writing method in the form of dialog is that the content in the book is too scattered, unclear, and random. The structure and content of the book can tell the author's anxious mood to talk to each other, however, this book is a bit messy because the author is eager to talk about his many years of experience. In order to give a point of view, the author has given many examples from various perspectives, the simple problem is complicated because many readers have not read "Yi Jing", "Tao Jing", and "Sun Tzu's Art of War".

Secondly, the topic of this book is career planning, but there is not much content in the book about planning, it is more about the capabilities required by each role and the methods that programmers can achieve. The specific content is a matter of opinion and wisdom, and there is no unified standard, different enterprises have different requirements.

Finally, the title of this book, "I can also do CTO", is misleading to readers. Although the editor wrote a post on why the title was obtained, not everyone is suitable for CTO, programmers should not set their own goals on the CTO. The most important aspect of career planning is to find the right position based on their full understanding of themselves. In addition, every programmer must not set his own limits when planning his career. For example, if he enters the IT industry, he must develop in the IT industry, in many cases, the sky is wide.

In addition, the author puts forward many models and figures summarized by himself in the book. These models and figures are just my own views and opinions. I hope that you can read them with a reference, do not trust or believe in everything. As a matter of fact, believe in any book as much as you do without a book.

Each book has its own shortcomings and limitations. A good reading attitude is a reference rather than a copy. In general, this book deserves careful reading by every programmer.
