Personal perspective, haha
RedHat
RHEL as4.0
Enterprise-level most commonly used Linux distribute. Most of the company's servers use this version. The better thing is that Oracle has released a dedicated version of rhel4.0 for Oracle for this version, complete some lib packages required during Oracle10g installation to the installation file (the installation process of Oracle10g is very painful for developers who are not installed or are not very skilled ), it is easy to install and a stable version.
Rhel5.0
I usually use an office or development version. It is also my favorite version, which is simple and practical.
SuSE
Suse10 has been playing this version for a while at home for a while. The overall feeling is comprehensive. It eats hardware resources and the interface is also evolving towards windows. There are many places where you can see the shadows of windows, another highlight is the support for 3D desktops!
Basically, the difference between functions and interfaces is good, but because all the window menus of SuSE are placed in one menu bar, unlike rhel5, menus in each workspace are placed in the menu bar of the workspace (this may be improved by configuring some gnome options, I switched from SuSE to rhel5.
The following describes common system tools. If you have time, write related installation procedures in the blog.
IM:
Pidgin, can chat QQ, MSN, Gtalk, very comprehensive ~ Previously called gimp and now renamed pidgin.
Note: If you want to support MSN when installing Pidgin, you need two lib packages, one is NSS and the other is NSPR. You can add the corresponding parameters when compiling the source code. For details, see. /configure -- help query.
MP3:
Xmms. The interface is similar to winmap. If you want to support the APE format, you need to install the Mac plug-in.
Movie:
Mpalyer, the most comprehensive video player, basically capable of playing video files in all formats
Mail:
Both Thunderbird and evolution are good ~
Office:
OpenOffice, redoffice
Desktop:
Rdesktop: Windows Remote Desktop Tool
VNC: Linux Remote Desktop Tool
Xlock: A tool similar to Windows Lock Screen
