Write in front: The disk partition under Windows better understand, under Linux will have the concept of mount, it is difficult to understand, but can be compared with Windows, in a popular way to comb them clear.

Our computer disk after the initialization of the factory, to be used, it is necessary to partition it, due to the MBR partition table restrictions, up to 4 primary partitions, if you want more partitions, you can be divided into 3 primary partitions and an extended partition, where the extended partition is divided into multiple logical partitions.

Next, if the Windows system and Linux systems are going to access the partitions of the disk, then the following work is required:

1.windows want to access

(1) Assign a file system type to a partition, for example, set to FAT16, or FAT32, or NTFS.

(2) Assigning a drive letter to the partition, such as D, can also be imagined to attach one of the partitions to the directory of my Computer/d disk.

 Next, the operation of the D disk, such as writing a file, is actually in the corresponding disk partition inside the operation.

2.Linux want to access

(1) Assign a file system type to a partition, such as Ext2, ext3, and so on.

(2) Since we have no direct access to the disk partition, we need to mount the corresponding partition under a directory. Under Windows, you can see each partition in the graphical interface (Disk Manager), and then you can assign the drive letter, but you cannot see the partition under Linux, but instead give a name to each partition as a file, for example (SDA1, where SD represents the disk of the SATA interface, HD represents the disk of the IDE interface; A represents the first disk, if there is a disk, then b;1 represents the first primary partition of the disk, the corresponding 2, 3, 4 for the 2nd, 3, 4 partitions, and 5 for the first logical partition. Next, you can mount a partition of the disk to a specific directory, such as mount the sda2 to the/home directory.

  Next, the operation of home/home, such as writing a file, is actually in the corresponding disk partition inside the operation.

Similarly, if the computer is connected to a USB flash drive, then:

(1) Windows can access it by assigning a disk to it, and its specific device can be seen in the Device Manager;

(2) Linux can mount it to the/media directory and access it, and its specific device can be found under the/dev directory.

In short, in Windows, do not need to think deeply to be able to understand, and under Linux, all things (mouse, hard disk, USB stick, process, etc.) as a file, can also be well understood.
