The company's SharePoint 2010 store has a number of PDF files, when clicked on the pdf file only prompted to download and save the file, and often users want to open the file directly to read. For this we need to configure the PDF IFilter 9 support on SharePoint 2010 to achieve the user's needs.
First, we need to download PDF iFilter from the Adobe Web site 9:http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpid=4025
Then, find a 16x16 size PDF icon file that can be in GIF or PNG format and access Adobe to find these icons.
Next, install PDF IFilter 9 (step omitted) and configure it on SharePoint 2010, so follow these steps:
Copy the icon file to the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\template\images directory.
Modify the "Docicon.xml" file in the XML subdirectory under "TEMPLATE" and add the following:
<mapping key= "PDF" value= "Pdf16x16.png"/>
Run the Regedit Registry Editor and navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\14.0\search\setup\contentindexcommon\filters\extension
Add the name ". PDF, and modify the default string value of ' {e8978da6-047f-4e3d-9c78-cdbe46041603} '
Finally, restart the IIS and SharePoint services, and clicking the pdf file pops up a prompt to open the PDF in read-only or edit mode, which ensures that Adobe Reader is already installed.
