Create a sci-fi-style laser light in Photoshop

Creating this process is simple and cannot be done in just 3 simple steps below. Technology includes some basic layer blending, selection, and painting skills.

Here is the final effect I have a preview of this tutorial:

All right, let's get started!

1th Step

Create a new file with a black background (size is not really important in this tutorial), create a new layer, draw a selection using the rectangular marquee tool, and fill it with the color you choose:

Deselect, apply the following Gaussian Blur filter settings to this layer:

Then use the free transform tool to compress it, as follows:

If you are not satisfied with the selected color, you can use hue/saturation adjustment (press CTRL + U) to slightly adjust the color. Then remove some parts of the line with a soft eraser, as follows:

Copy the layer one at a time, and further compress it until it forms an ultra-thin line:

You will have the following effects:

2nd Step

Create a new layer with a soft white brush to draw a dotted line, as shown in the following figure:

To set this new point layer as a clipping mask on the upper layer, you will have the following effects:

Create another build on top, then use a white brush to draw a larger point, compress it down, as shown in the following figure:

Change the layer blending mode to "overlay" and replicate this layer about 3-4 times, and you will have the following effects:

3rd Step

Now we're going to add some airflow around the laser effect – you either use a cloud filter (mixed with a 30-pixel feather lasso tool) to render some cloud lasers, or you can use a free cloud/smoke brush (which can be found on many of those on the Internet), adding some of its cloud effects:

And then warp the cloud with the warp tool, stretching it to form a flowing effect:

Here is the effect you aim to achieve:

OK, we're done! Group all above these layers into a folder and add it to your design!

You can adjust the layer opacity of the original laser base (the first layer we created in this tutorial) to fade out, or compress the free Layer Group transform tool to reduce its height and width:
