The Secure Store Service is the licensing service that runs on the application server. The Secure store Service provides a database for storing credentials. These credentials typically consist of a user ID and password, but can also contain other fields that you define. For example, SharePoint Server 2013 can use the Secure Store database to store and retrieve credentials for accessing external data sources. The Secure store Service provides support for multiple sets of credentials that store multiple back-end systems.
The Secure store service can store user credentials for the service:
- Excel Service
- Visio Services
- PerformancePoint Services
- Power Pivot
- Microsoft Business Connectivity Services
To create a secure Store Service application, first go to central administration and create a new:
As with the other service application, create a new application Pool:
Click OK and you are ready to create it.
Although the creation is successful, it is not yet available and needs to be set up. Click Manage on the Ribbon:
This page was opened and the secure Store service was not started:
Go to service to start services:
Go to the Manage page again and see another warning message.
Click Generate New Key on the Ribbon to enter the password:
Click OK so that the secure Store service is set up.
