For scenarios with extremely high image requirements, image encoding is usually performed by occupying a large amount of CPU resources on the host. CPU resources are limited, so there will be fewer virtual desktops on the host. If you want to run more desktops on the host, the APEX card is based on hardware encoding. You can release the CPU resources used for encoding. In addition to installing the PCIe standard APEX card on the ESXi host, you also need to install the APEX card driver on the ESXi host and the APEX driver on the desktop.

For a large VDI project, the cost of the host is greatly higher than that of the APEX card.

Note that the CPU resources are released using this card, and the data transmitted over the network will not be reduced, so the bandwidth requirements will not be reduced.

Automatic Adjustment Based on network bandwidth

If the network conditions of the user's access to the desktop change, or the user often accesses the desktop from different networks, PCoIP can automatically adjust the image quality according to the current network conditions. After RDP is optimized by Riverbed, the bandwidth requirements can be greatly reduced. Riverbed is far less effective than RDP for PCoIP, because PCoIP is based on UDP.
