Background knowledge
ERCP has emerged as a way to apply the benefits of Eclipse Rich-Client Platform (RCP) to embedded devices. The topics covered are:
Setting up the development environment
ERCP Application building Block
How to generate a log for debugging
Deploy to the actual device
Major differences between RCP and ERCP applications
Setting up the development environment
Installing development tools on a Windows development machine
The most basic ERCP development environment consists of the following components:
Eclipse SDK
Download Eclipse V3.2 SDK
Supported JRE (V1.4.2)
Download the Run-time library from Sun Microsystems or IBM
ERCP Run-time Library
For today's milestone build (V1.0 GA), ERCP supports three different platforms:
Windows®mobile 2003/windows Mobile 5
Windows Desktop (WIN32)
Nokia Series 80
We will use the first two platforms. Download the ERCP milestone package, used for Windows with a mark of Mx, where x is the milestone number
For small devices, there is a Java™ platform of different specifications, called Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME). We will use the Foundation Profile Implementation section of the Ibm®workplace Client Technology: Micro Edition for Windows.
