Background:

Server: Dell

Three raid groups:

SDA (raid1) System Disk

SDB (RAID5) application data disk, in use

SDC (RAID5) not used, file system to be created, Mount

LVM not used

Operating System SuSE 11 Enterprise

Problem description:

After Dividing SDC into partitions (with only one partition), create a file system, mkfs-T ext3/dev/sdc1, run the command, and the network is disconnected. Process Termination.

Log on to the recovery network and run mkfs-T ext3/dev/sdc1 again. The result is as follows:

/Dev/sdc1 is apparently in use by the system; will not make a filesystem here!

Try other items on the Internet:

# DMSetup statusno devices found

No output.

Solution:

# Fuser-V/dev/sdc1 user PID access command/dev/sdc1: Root 30049 f... mkfs. ext3dsszbyz-ods2-mst2 :~ # Killed 30049

Run mkfs-T ext3/dev/sdc1 again.

OK.
