Hard disk partition, there are three kinds, primary partition, extended partition, logical partition

A hard disk primary partition has at least 1, a maximum of 4, and an extended partition can be no more than 1. and the primary partition + extended partition must not exceed 4 total. A logical partition can have several.

The extended partition cannot be used directly, it must be used to separate the logical partition, and the logical partition exists in the extended partition. Logical partitions are part of an extended partition.

Window supports five types of dynamic volumes, simple volumes, spanned volumes, striped volumes, mirrored volumes, and RAID-5 volumes.

Simple volume: After the basic disk is converted to a dynamic disk, all the primary and logical partitions become simple volumes.
Spanned volumes: Members of spanned volumes cannot have system and boot volumes, and spanned volumes combine free space on other disks into a larger logical volume, which means that unallocated space on other disks is composed of a spanned volume. When information is stored, the spanned volume first stores the disks of one of the members and then stores them in the next

Striped Volume (RAID-0)

RAID-5

RAID 5 is a storage solution that combines storage performance, data security, and storage costs. RAID 5 can be understood as a compromise between RAID 0 and RAID 1. RAID 5 can provide data security for the system, but with a lower level of protection than mirror and higher disk space utilization than mirror. RAID 5 has a similar data read speed as RAID 0, with only one parity information, which is slower than writing to a single disk. At the same time, because of multiple data corresponding to a parity information, RAID 5 disk space utilization is higher than RAID 1, the storage cost is relatively low, is the use of more than a solution.

For example, RAID 5, which consists of four hard disks, is stored as shown in the picture in the overview: The P0 is the parity information for D0, D1, and D2, and so on. As can be seen from the figure, RAID 5 does not back up the stored data, but instead stores the data and its corresponding parity information on each disk that makes up the RAID5, and the parity information and the corresponding data are stored on separate disks. When one of the RAID5 disk data is corrupted, the data is recovered using the remaining data and the corresponding parity information.

In a simple language, using at least 3 hard drives (or more) to build a RAID5 disk array, when there is data written to the hard disk, according to 1 hard disk is directly written to the track of the hard disk, if it is RAID5, this time the data write will be divided into 3 parts according to the algorithm, and then write to the 3 hard disk, The write will also write the checksum on these 3 hard drives, when reading the written data will be read from the 3 hard disk data content, and then through the inspection information to verify. When 1 of the hard drives are damaged, the data from the other 2 hard drives can be calculated from the contents of the 3rd hard drive. That is to say, RAID5 this kind of storage only allows one hard disk to fail, in case of failure need to be replaced as soon as possible. When the failed hard drive is replaced, the data written during the failure is re-verified. If the failure to solve the problem and bad 1 blocks, it is catastrophic.
