"Each grain of sand will have its own RFID tag in the future", which is the dream of RFID fans. However, just like any other new technology, RFID is difficult in the process of application.
Difficult to find standards
Internationally, although the RFID technology is constantly improving and the application of RFID is also increasing, due to the imperfect technology and lack of application experience, there is also an incompatible application flow. DHL Express, which once keen on RFID technology testing, decided to slowly push forward the electronic tag application process because it was not satisfied with the current RFID recognition rate. While Walmart, which has been pushing RFID technology globally, there was also a message about slowing down the deployment of RFID.
In China, the challenges to promote RFID are even more arduous. Poor informatization of enterprise users, how to combine and optimize management with user services, and how to make enterprises recognize benefits are all difficulties facing RFID practitioners.
Among all the challenges, standard issues are the most important. Whether Microsoft's RFID innovation lab or Cisco's RFID solutions, from service providers, integrators to platform vendors, there is no high degree of attention to standard issues.
No matter what industry, what technical fields, and a sound standard system are crucial application bases. However, in the RFID industry, China has not had its own standard system for a long time, but international RFID standards are not uniform. EPC, AIM, ISO, UID, IP-X and other standards and systems are constantly changing, different types of industry in different regions have different requirements, China RFID industry chain enterprises, whether service providers or users, they had to be independent of major standards or become all-powerful players.
When talking about standards, many RFID practitioners complain to reporters. Due to the absence of Chinese standards, they are exhausted in practical application, increasing cost investment, "This has greatly hindered the development of RFID in China." A Chinese RFID service provider said.
Wang Lijian, head of the general Team of the electronic label Standards Working Group and director of the informatization research center of the Institute of electronic industry standardization of the Ministry of Information Industry, spoke at the Forum. standards have become the focus of attention. Wang Lijian said that information management is a very important issue in the information age, especially after RFID is widely used. Standards involve a large number of economic, political, and security interests. Now, all the world's powerful countries are desperately turning their standards into international standards. China cannot have its own standard system.
Fortunately, not long ago, China's 800/900 MHz RFID technology application trial provision (800/900 trial provision) was published, and according to Wang Lijian, other standards are also being actively drafted.
However, Wang Lijian also pointed out that if we want to speed up the standard process and improve the applicability of the standard, we still need the active participation of Chinese enterprises. "Enterprises should play an important role in the Working Group. However, every time they participate in international conferences, there are about 20 foreign delegations, and the representatives of China are very clear about the old experts ." On the Forum, Wang Lijian strongly urged Chinese enterprises to actively participate in China's standard-making work.
Mission survival
While facing the challenges, the RFID industry is also actively thinking about how the RFID industry broke through. In the face of the problem of how to break through, enterprises and units in different positions in the industrial chain think of the solution as "cooperation ".
Any emerging industry will encounter more or less problems in its early stages of development, and RFID is no exception. At this stage, no enterprise or organization can solve all problems independently. To create a harmonious atmosphere, cooperation and profit sharing are the solutions.
As Wang Lijian said, the establishment and improvement of China's own standard system requires the joint cooperation of the whole industry and the active participation of enterprises. Cooperation is also a way to solve other problems faced by RFID applications.
