Do users who use virtual machines feel that your virtual disk files are getting bigger and larger, and that you're almost full of valuable disk space (a host physical hard drive)?
Some people would think that I started the virtual machine directly, and then deleted the useless data inside, not on the line? The actual test found that the size of the virtual disk file stored on the physical hard disk did not decrease after this deletion. The virtual machine disk file is only slowly growing, and the virtual machine software does not "compress" the virtual disk after the user deletes the data.
Well now, we can use Diskgenius software for compression. For example, what we use is that its virtual disk file is VMDK format. Then we can compress it with the following methods. As shown in the following illustration, this is the size before uncompressed (around 1.7G).
The steps are as follows: 1, in the Diskgenius software, first to compress the virtual disk to open (menu: "Hard disk –> open the virtual hard disk File"). You can see the virtual disk on the load in the left window when you open it.
2. Then we'll create a new VMDK virtual Disk (menu: "Hard disk –> new virtual hard disk file –> new VMware virtual hard disk File") that is not less than the source virtual hard disk.
3, start to compress. Select (Menu: "Tool –> clone Hard Disk"), after the pop-up dialog box, select the VMDK virtual disk to compress when "select Source Hard Disk", select the VMDK virtual disk that you just created when "Select target hard Disk", then click "Start".
4, has now replicated, we found two virtual disk files in the path, compare the size.
As you can see, the virtual hard disk is compressed.
At this point, some follow-up cleanup work needs to be done. First, turn off the two virtual hard disks that you just opened in the Diskgenius software, or close the Diskgenius software directly. Then rename the source virtual hard disk file (standby, just in case), and rename the new virtual hard disk file to the file name of the source virtual hard disk (note that you want to be exactly the same). Finally open the virtual machine, start the virtual system, no problem can be deleted before the source virtual hard disk files.
At this point, the compression is complete.
