Dreamweaver8.0 the properties of the settings layer

Select the layer you want to set, and you can set the layer's properties in the Properties panel.

Layer Number: Name the layer to identify the layer in the Layers panel and JavaScript code.

Left, top: Specifies the position of the upper-left corner of the layer relative to the page (if nested, the parent layer).

Wide, High: Specifies the width and height of the layer. If the content of the layer exceeds the specified size, the bottom edge of the layer (as shown in Dreamweaver Design view) extends to accommodate the content. (If the overflow property is not set to visible, the bottom edge will not extend when the layer appears in the browser.)

Z-axis: Sets the hierarchy property of a layer. In the browser, the higher-numbered layer appears in front of the lower numbered layer. The value can be positive, or it can be negative. When you change the stacking order of layers, it is easier to use the layers panel than to enter a specific z-axis value

Visibility: Sets the visibility of the layer in the Visibility drop-down list. Use textbooks language such as Javascrip to control the dynamic display and concealment of layers. There are four options:

default--Select this option, the visibility of the layer is not specified.

inherit--Select this option to inherit the visibility of the parent layer.

visible--Select this option to display the layer and the content it contains, regardless of whether its parent layer is visible.

hidden--Select this option to hide the layer and the content it contains, regardless of whether its parent layer is visible.

Background color: Used to set the background color of a layer.

Background image--the background image used to set the layer.

Overflow--Select how the layer content is handled when it exceeds the size of the layer. There are four options:

Visible (Display): Select this option to automatically increase the layer size when the layer content is beyond the range of the layer.

Hidden (hidden): Select this option, and when the layer content is beyond the range of the layer, keep the layer size unchanged, hiding the contents of the outside part.

Scroll (scroll bar): Select this option to automatically increase the scroll bar regardless of whether the layer content is outside the range of the layer.

Auto (Auto): Select this option to automatically increase the scroll bar (default) when the layer content exceeds the range of the layer.

Clips: Sets the viewable area of a layer. Sets the pixel value of the viewable region and the layer boundary by using the top, bottom, left, and right text boxes. After the layer has been "clipped", only the specified rectangular area is visible.

Class: In the Drop-down list for a class, you can select a CSS style that has already been set or create a new CSS style.

Note: The default unit for position and size is pixels (px). You can also specify the following units: PC (PICA), pt (Dots), in (inches), mm (mm), cm (cm), or% (percentage of corresponding values in the parent layer). Abbreviations must be immediately after the value, with no spaces in the middle:
