WiFi is currently the most widely used short-range wireless transmission technology, bringing great convenience to our lives. However, according to a report by the physicist organization network on June 12, a study by Dutch scientists showed that the existing technology is too slow in the face of increasing wireless devices and networks. If new technologies or standards are not used, the current Wi-Fi network will soon reach its limit.
After testing and analyzing the existing Wi-Fi network, the researchers at the CTIT Research Institute at the University of the Netherlands in charge of the study found that when multiple wireless networks and wireless devices exist in a certain area at the same time, the Wi-Fi efficiency will decrease significantly. In some cases, its performance may even fall below 20%. This is also true in actual use environments. People often find that the speed of the Wi-Fi network is always lower than the nominal speed in the wireless router specification, and even drops when the network is busy. With the development of the mobile Internet and the increasing number of mobile devices, the existing Wi-Fi network will not be able to provide better support.
Luo aier siphoster, a researcher at the CTIT Research Institute at the University of tevent, said this is mainly because the technology has not undergone major changes since its appearance in 1980s. However, there are more and more wireless networks, wireless devices that use Wi-Fi access networks are growing dramatically every day. More active wireless devices consume a large amount of bandwidth and consume more data traffic. The current wireless network environment is very different from that when WiFi first appeared, this makes WiFi an inefficient communication method. Therefore, hiphoster has called for the adoption of new technologies or the implementation of a new generation of WiFi standards as soon as possible to adapt to the increasingly busy wireless network environment.
The study, commissioned by the Dutch radio and Communications Board, will be published in the green engineering Journal of radio.
