Exchange 2007 Automatic Discovery Service principle and debugging

Overview

Microsoft's newest mail system The new service is added to the Exchange server2007: Autodiscover (auto Discover service). This service is used to automate configuration Outlook2007 (note: For outlook2007 only, This service is not available in other versions of Outlook and has been implemented through public folder in previous eras. To reduce the workload of the Administrator, it is necessary to use Office Resource Kit to make the 24-step setup for automated deployment of client Outlook configuration in the previous exchange2000/2003+outlook2003 era. Now that you have the Autodiscover service, all you need to do is open Outlook and enter your username and password. In addition, the Autodiscover service also supports Windows Mobile devices. Specifically, the Autodiscover service supports exchange for the following features: OAB (Offline address list), the availability service (free/busy information), Outlook Anywhere server settings, Unified Messaging ( Unified Messaging configuration information) and out of Office (Out-of-office message information configuration). If the outlook2007+exchange2007 mode is used in your environment, and the Autodiscover service is not configured, none of the features listed above work properly.

How the Autodiscover service works (assuming that the user email address is user@contoso.com)

When you deploy the Client Access server role (the clients accessing the service roles), the installation process creates a virtual directory named Autodiscover under the Default Web site of IIS (shown in Figure 1), which points to the client Accessautodiscover folder. This virtual directory is used to process requests for automatic configuration information for outlook2007 clients and Windows Mobile devices. The installation process also installs a service connection point (SCP, the Chinese name is "service Connection points" in the Active Directory, similar to the SCP created in the deployment of RMS or SMS). The installer automatically discovers that the SCP objects are placed in the following containers: (as shown in Figure 2)
