Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic koala) cannot access the Internet. I remember this happened when I first installed ubuntu. The solution was to uninstall the network components that came with gnome and modify wicd. Although wicd can successfully access the Internet, it is unstable. During the past few months, the wicd prompts "the network is not connected ". This morning, the system prompts that the network has been disconnected and wicd has been completely reimbursed. In desperation, the network component of gnome is returned. I downloaded the latest Deb package from the PPA source and expect the gnome community to successfully solve the problem of ubuntu Internet access. However, the reality is disappointing: the gnome network component can be connected to the LAN after being installed, however, pppoe cannot be connected to the Internet. What should I do? It seems that I can only go back to Ubuntu 9.04 and it is slow. Since gnome network components in 9.04 can work normally, why not downgrade all network components in 9.10 to version 9.04. In this way, taking Koala as a living koala Doctor, after two hours of hard work, koala proved to be a real lucky Koala (karmic koala). It was successfully downgraded and ubuntu was able to access the Internet, I breathed a sigh of relief, and koala eventually stayed on my hard disk.

To downgrade a gnome network component, follow these steps:
  1. Detach two packages from new IDE:Network-ManagerAndNetwork-Manager-gnome

  1. InstallVersion 0.7Gnome network components, i386 installation package I put it here. The amd64 version gets the http://packages.ubuntu.com from this site, and the list of all dependent packages is as follows:

    • Libnm-util1_0.7.1

    • Libpolkit2-0.9

    • Libnm-glib0_0.7.1

    • Libpolkit-dbus2

    • Libpolkit-grant2

    • Libpolkit-gnome0

    • Network-manager_0.7.1

    • Network-manager-gnome_0.7.1

  2. Run the following command on the command line:Sudo/etc/init. d/NetworkManager restart

Now you can enjoy the network life in Ubuntu again :)
