Experience the new management interface of IIS 7.0

When using IIS 7.0, we will surely notice that IIS 7.0 has a brand new management interface, which is the first feeling after you start the IIS Server Manager. The IIS manager has been re-designed. On the left is a tree-like hierarchical menu, where all different directories are listed in the main window, and on the right is an operation task area for a service in the main window.

As shown in, the first thing we should note is the style of "feature View Features View" as shown in, and for users who are used to the old IIS interface, you can also select "Content View" to view the file information of your website. However, most users may choose to use "function view" to modify site and application settings.

Once you click any of the icons in IIS 7.0, you will notice that, unlike earlier versions of IIS, most of the settings can now be accessed in the main window. This is of course a very popular change. We are tired of the numerous labels and dialogs of the old version of IIS.

One thing I personally feel very satisfied with is that in IIS 7.0, I have never encountered a window frequently popped up in older versions of IIS: "Before closing the IIS service manager, close all property pages." Of course, there are still a few settings on the page and a dialog box is displayed, but in most cases, we can complete all the operations in the main window.

In the new version of IIS, another new function is the "operation" panel. This task-based panel shows you most common tasks related to the services or functions you selected. For example, all the related task options when you select the default site.

In addition, Microsoft has fully considered those who prefer to use the command line method to configure IIS, and added a new command line configuration environment called appcmd.exe in the new IIS 7.0.

Similar to other components of the Lonhorn Server, all task operations that can be performed on a graphical interface can also be completed in the command line mode. This aspect once gave Linux the upper hand over Windows due to remote management.

Similarly, the remote management function is more powerful through the secure HTTP support in all tools of IIS 7.0.
