Find network neighbors in Linux

Editor's note: when using the Linux operating system, it is quite troublesome to find other resources in the LAN. However, the four convenient and easy-to-use small software introduced here will make it very easy to find "Network neighbors.

Gnomba

This graphic tool allows you to scan SMB-based computers in subnets in different regions. The speed is faster than that of Windows 9X when "Network Neighbor" is enabled.

To view other computers on the LAN, you must specify an IP address range for gnomba scanning and click "Preferences" in the "Options" menu, enter the IP address range to be scanned on the right of the frame "Configuration", and click "Add. The "Options" frame can be used to make some initial settings for the program. For example, it can be used to scan the specified IP address range when the program is started. Other settings include font and initial directory selection. Press "OK" to exit the settings.

After selecting a set of IP address ranges, click the "(re) Scan" option in the "File" menu and you will be able to see the computers contained in this set of IP addresses, it can be displayed by working group or host name.

Click the host name on it, and the software will search the shared directory of the host. After clicking the shared directory, the program will load it to the preset directory.

Although the software still has some problems (when loading and detaching Directories), its convenient IP address scanning function is worth a try.

LinNeighborhood

As shown in its name, this software is a "Network Neighbor" Graphical tool applied to Linux operating systems. The latest version of the program can be found at www.bnro.de /~ Schmidjo/found, the size is 129KB. The software does not need to be installed. After unpacking, you can directly execute:

When you run it for the first time, you can click "Preferences" in the "Options" menu for initial settings. On the "Scan" tab, enter the name of the Working Group and the view mode; on the "Programs" tab, select the correct software version number. Because the loading command parameters of different versions are different, failure to select the correct version number may cause loading errors; on the "Miscellaneous" tab, you can also change the default Mount directory. Do not forget to press "Save" before exiting to Save your settings.

Next, you can Add the hosts in the Working Group to the software. Click the fifth icon in the toolbar and enter the host name, working group, and IP address in the "Add Machine" window that appears, after clicking "OK", the host name will be added to the main window of the program. A simpler method is to double-click the penguin in the main window. After a period of scanning, all available resources in the LAN will appear in the main window.

Double-click the corresponding host in the main window to view the resources shared by the host. Right-click the Directory and select "Mount" to bring up "Mount Dialog ", here, you can also modify the "Mount" operation, such as the Mount point and directory permissions. If the other party's shared resources require a password, enter the corresponding password. You can also mount a shared resource to a different mount point. When there are several users on a computer who want to mount it to their respective "home" directories, this function is very useful. Click "Mount" and you can see the mounted directory in the "Resource" window below. To uninstall the directory, right-click it and select "Umount, however, the directory used for loading will not be automatically deleted. Note that the application does not support printers.

Tk Samba

This program allows you to easily browse MicroSoft Net through the graphical interface. You can use this program to easily access different working groups, hosts and their shared resources.

The working window of the program will be opened, and the Working Groups in the LAN and their computers will be displayed in front of the users one by one.

In the "Groups" window, the names of working Groups are displayed. Click on different working Groups to view all the computer Hosts of the working GROUP in the "Hosts in GROUP" on the left, users can click on different computer hosts and shared directories to open the corresponding files. The files in the shared directory are displayed in the "Remote" window. You can click the file on it to Download it to the local host. The downloaded directory can be "Download:. If the accessed host or file directory requires a Password, you can enter the username and Password in "User:" and "Password.

If you want to load the remote directory to the local host, you can right-click the shared directory and select "Mount" to load it to the download directory. However, the program does not provide an unmount method. Even if you exit the program, you can still access remote files on the local host.

XSMBrowser

When you enter the shared directory of a host in the main window, you can click the "Mount" and "Unmount" buttons at the bottom to load and uninstall the directory items, you can also specify the mount point and select the corresponding Smbmount version. "Save" can store the selected files to a local disk, while the "Tar" button can package the content (including subdirectories) in the current directory, select "Upload" to Upload files to the remote host.
