Five configuration methods for local routers in enterprise LAN

1. Static Configuration

In this way, you can manually configure the gateway parameters of the TCP/IP network component through the network attribute setting window of Windows 2000 to complete the local default route configuration task, this method is usually used for workstations that use static IP addresses in LAN. To complete the local route configuration task in static mode, follow these steps:

Click Start, set, and control panel commands. In the displayed control panel window, double-click the network and dial-up connections icon to open the network connection List window; right-click the "local connection" icon and execute the "properties" command from the shortcut menu to open the network connection Property setting window;

Click the "General" tab in the window, select the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" project on the corresponding tab page, and click the "properties" button, open the TCP/IP property settings window, click the "advanced" button in the window, and click the "IP settings" tab on the advanced property settings page that appears later;

Next, click "add" in the "Default Gateway" settings on the corresponding tab. In the setting box shown in "1", enter the IP address and the number of hops of the local router correctly, by default, the number of hops of the local router is 1.

Figure 1

After correctly entering the above parameters, click the "add" button to complete the default gateway configuration task. Of course, if there are other routers in the LAN, you can click the "add" button to add the IP addresses of other routers one by one. After adding all the router IP addresses, click OK to complete the local route configuration task.

2. dynamic configuration

If the LAN uses a DHCP server to assign IP addresses to each workstation, when any workstation is powered on and "added" to the LAN, it will automatically send the request information for applying the IP address to the LAN. Once the DHCP server in the LAN receives the request, A temporary IP address and corresponding network mask address will be automatically assigned to the current workstation, and the default gateway address and the number of hops will be automatically set for the workstation. Compared with the LAN workstation, the local route parameters are pre-set through the DHCP server, so this configuration method is automatically completed during the dynamic login process.

Note that the priority level of the local route information configured in dynamic mode is higher than that of the local route information obtained in static mode. That is to say, if there are multiple routing configuration methods in the same LAN, the routing information configured in static mode takes effect first, and the local routing information configured in dynamic mode takes effect later.

3. Broadcast Configuration

As you know, wks installed with Windows 2000 have a special ICMP Route disute function, which can replace the gateway parameters configured dynamically or statically, automatically listen to the broadcast information of the ICMP router to find the most suitable gateway parameter that the current workstation can use. Of course, to successfully configure the gateway parameters of the workstation in broadcast mode, you must require that the routers in the LAN have enabled the ICMP Route disute function. To do this, follow these steps:

Click "start"/"run" command in sequence. In the displayed system running dialog box, enter the Registry Editing Command "Regedit" and click "OK" to open the registry editing interface;

Move the cursor to the Registry branch HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesTcpipParameters. In the subwindow (2) on the right of the corresponding Parameters branch, click the Edit/New/Dword command in the menu bar, then, name the newly created Dword key value "Custom mrouterdiscovery ";

Figure 2

Double-click the created "mmrouterdiscovery" key value. In the Value Setting window that appears, enter the number "1" and click "OK". The Registry Editing page is displayed;

Place the cursor in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesadapternameParametersTcpip (where adaptername is the NIC value) of the Registry branch, and in the subwindow on the right of the corresponding Tcpip branch, click the "edit", "new", and "Dword" commands in the menu, and then name the newly created Dword key value "SolicitationAddressBcast ", set the key value to "1", click "OK", and restart the computer system.

Please note that this method is only applicable to communications between workstations in the LAN. It is best not to use this configuration method for networks or workstations with external communications, otherwise, it is easy to threaten the security of the internal network.

4. Configure the listener

As you know, when a Windows 2000 Workstation connects to two different subnets through two NICs, you must manually configure the gateway parameters for each Nic, but what really works is the default gateway parameter of the first Nic. In this case, if we use the monitoring method to configure the gateway of the workstation, the workstation can automatically listen to the RIP broadcast information sent by the network router, so as to realize the purpose of communicating with all the workstations in the two subnets. Of course, to set a workstation with Windows 2000 installed as a RIP listener, you must first configure the following settings:

Click Start, set, and control panel commands. In the displayed control panel window, double-click Add/delete programs, in the Add/delete programs window that appears, click the Add/delete Windows Components tab. On the corresponding tab page, select the network service option, click "details;

In the settings window that appears later, select the "RIP listener" option (3) and click "OK, then follow the wizard prompts to insert the Windows 2000 system installation CD, the system will automatically complete the configuration change operation, and finally restart the system, the Windows 2000 Workstation has the RIP listening function.

Figure 3

Of course, this method is only suitable for vro environments with the RIP information broadcast function already exists in the LAN. If there is no such vro in the network, you cannot use the listener to complete the gateway configuration task.

5. Manual Configuration

When a workstation is connected to several subnets with several NICs installed at the same time, if no default gateway is available for access, the workstation does not know which subnet to send IP information; to ensure that the workstation can communicate with the workstation in all subnets, We can manually add routes to complete the workstation gateway configuration tasks.

For example, if we want to allow the workstation to communicate with a subnet with the network address 10.168.160.0 and the gateway address 10.168.160.1, we can follow the steps below to add a local route:

Click "start"/"run" command, enter the "cmd" string command in the pop-up system running box, and click "OK" to switch the system to MS-Dos working mode;

In the doscommand line, enter the string command "route add 10.168.160.0 mask 255.255.255.0 10.168.160.1 metric 1" and click the Enter key to add the route information to the 10.168.160.0 subnet to the local route table;

Now you can execute the "route print" command in the doscommand line to see the route entry we just added in the result screen.

Generally, you can manually configure routes in a small network environment. If a LAN contains many workstations, this method is not conducive to efficient network maintenance.
