ArcGIS Server Service Release

I wrote about the basic release of the map service. That is to say, if you have installed SOM and SOC on the same machine, When you published the map service on this machine, if it is a local mxd, right-click mxd in arccatalog and click "Publish to ArcGIS Server", which is the same as create new service in arccatalog. Note that when you use the "Publish to ArcGIS Server" Wizard, there is a drop-down list box for you to select a computer. If you select a local machine, it is the same as create new service, if you select the computer where som is located, pay attention to it! The mxd you selected cannot be in a local path, for example, "d: \ data \ test. mxd". Instead, you need to create a UNC path in arccatalog? You don't know how to create a UNC path, so please go here to see the http://webhelp.esri.com/arcgisdesktop/9.2/index.cfm? Topicname = giving_arcgis_server_access_to_folders.

In my opinion, you should have learned how to create a UNC path in arccatalog. After that, right-click the mxd under the UNC path and click "Publish to ArcGIS Server ", then select the computer where som is located, and take the next step. if the service starts normally, it seems to be a good thing. If not, you have to look for the reason.

Here I want to talk about a very important issue. Even if the above service is started normally, when You Preview It In arccatalog, you cannot see the data ~, A blank preview window may prompt you "can't display this layer. The data source referenced by this layer maybe missing or too upted? Congratulations, there is a solution here. This is because the local path is still used when your mxd loads data again. Please open this mxd with ArcMap and remove the original layer, when adding a layer, remember to use the data in the UNC path, save it again, and release it again. Prefect!

You can create an experiment. You can open this mxd on the machine where som is located (either copy it or open it with ArcMap in the shared path). If there is a red exclamation mark in front of the layer, the local path you use. If the data can be normally displayed, the mxd can be released normally!
