According to foreign media reports, sources recently revealed that Google is about to reach an agreement with Dish Network, the second largest satellite TV company in the United States, and both sides plan to expand the TV advertisement market. So far, Google has not commented on this.
Previously, it was reported that Google had launched a pilot program in California to expand its "advertising empire" to the television field to provide ads for cable TV users. If the rumors of cooperation with Dish Network are true, Google will have a huge impact on the TV advertisement market, because the company's advertisements are more distinctive and can impress the audience.
Dish Network is a leader in the field of high definition and interactive TV programs in the United States. With its cooperation, Google can provide users with advertisements more effectively and specifically. For example, TV ads provided by Google will be more relevant to the content of TV programs watched by users. So far, Google's annual revenue from the internet advertising market has exceeded $10 billion. The annual output value of the U.S. TV advertising market is about $55 billion. This market is undoubtedly very attractive for Google, which is eager to develop multiple types of operations.
Google has begun testing its TV advertising program to provide ads to cable TV users in Astound Broadband in California. In this transaction, Google first buys TV commercials from Astound Broadband and then adds the ads provided by its advertisers. On the surface, this is no big difference with ordinary TV ads. But the biggest difference is that Google acts as a broker.
To launch more targeted ads, Google needs to obtain user information. In this process, Google may encounter privacy protection issues. It is unclear how Google will solve this problem. Fortunately, the Dish Network has already provided a highly interactive user experience. For example, users can search for programs by keyword and select their favorite themes, which reflects their personal taste. By working with Dish Network, Google may be able to take full advantage of this information.
