On the 8 th, Sohu made a public statement on the plagiarism of the "Sogou Pinyin input method" Dictionary, accusing Google of stealing the Dictionary of Sogou Pinyin input method, and demanded that Google immediately stop stealing the Dictionary of Sogou Pinyin input method, it also claims that Sohu reserves the right to take further actions.

In 4th day of this month, Google launched the pinyin input method in China. In less than a few hours after its launch, Google was challenged by alleged plagiarism and theft by netizens and industry veterans, and provide conclusive evidence to prove that the input method has stolen the Sogou Pinyin input dictionary, such as Sohu employee nickname in the dictionary, both of which are the same. Some netizens said that Google's input method found the dictionary fingerprint of Sogou's input method. Afterwards, netizens uploaded the fingerprints and screenshots of the Sogou Input dictionary in Google's input method to various forums.
Sohu said yesterday that the Sohu pinyin input method was released in June 5, 2006 and is the world's first Pinyin input method based on search engine technology. Sogou Search has never made public a dictionary of Sohu pinyin input methods in any form (including but not limited to v1.5beta2 ), in addition, Google is not authorized to obtain and use this dictionary. On the evening of November April 5, 2007, Google Pinyin input method was upgraded to version 1.0.16.0. However, Sohu said that after the upgrade, the Dictionary of the updated version is still obviously stolen. In this regard, Sohu expressed "strong indignation ".
In the face of questions raised by netizens, Google remains silent. In April 6, Google's input method was quietly upgraded. The new version of Google's input method removed some obvious dictionary fingerprints from Sogou's input method.
Commercial purposes behind input methods
A seemingly small input method hides a large commercial purpose. At present, the vast majority of input methods on the Internet are free of charge, but because the user base of the input method is quite large, once used by users, it will be sticky enough. Some people will use an input method for more than 10 years. Therefore, the input method is very helpful for brand promotion of search engines.
Google has realized that in the Chinese market, input methods can play an excellent role in promoting their entry into the Chinese market. In addition, Google and Sogou search engine providers own a large search keyword Database. It is easy to get the latest popular word groups and synchronize them with local phrases.
