I ' ve been spending more and more time on Ubuntu and I ' m not used to the Chinese keyboard that ships with Ubuntu. The keyboard on Android works pretty well so here's a quick tutorial on what to install it on Ubuntu/debian Linux.

sudo apt-get install Fcitx-googlepinyinim-config

Click through and select Fcitx. Click through.

Restart your computer. Click the keyboard in the top right corner. Press Configure current Input Method. Press + to add a new language. De-select "Only show current language". Type in Google-pinyin. Press OK. To switch between keyboards press Ctrl+space
