Q:During the interview, the interviewer suddenly came up with a concept that he had never heard of before. Can I ask the interviewer to ask him to clarify the question? Will he think I'm stupid if I ask?

A: The biggest difference between an interview and a written test is:Interview is a process that focuses on communication, and communication is bidirectional.. Therefore, the interviewer can ask the applicant questions, and the applicant can also ask the interviewer questions.

Generally, an important task for the interviewer during the interview process is to examine the applicant's learning desire and learning ability.. How is learning ability reflected? The interviewer proposed a new concept. The applicant did not hear about him, so he asked further questions based on his existing understanding and then mastered the concept. This is the learning capability. People with strong learning ability usually have an active and positive attitude. Therefore, it is recommended that you ask more questions if you do not understand the application process. In this way, the interviewer feels that you are positive and have a strong desire for knowledge. This will add extra points to the interview results.

For example, Google once had an interview question: Find 1,500th ugly ones. Many people do not know what the ugly number is. Don't know what to do? The interviewer is sitting on the opposite side. You can ask him. The interviewer will tell you that the number containing only two, three, and five factors is the ugly number. After hearing this, you feel that you have understood it, but you are not sure, so you can give a few examples and let the interview confirm that your understanding is correct:
6, 8, 10, and 12 are ugly, but 14 is not, right? When the interviewer gives a positive answer, you will know that your understanding is correct. The question is 1,500th ugly numbers, which are related to the sequence. But which number is the first ugly number? Is 1 the first one? You may not be sure about this. What should I do? Ask the interviewer. He will tell you whether 1 is an ugly number or not. He has the responsibility to explain the question to you.

Some interviewers even intentionally did not clearly describe the question at the beginning, so that the question has some ambiguity. He expects that the applicant can answer questions step by step to understand the requirements of the questions. This is to examine the applicant's communication skills.. Why is this? Because the actual work is the same, it is not very clear from the first project requirement. The programmer needs to communicate with the project manager or even the customer multiple times to clarify the requirements. Without a certain degree of communication skills, when a programmer faces a vague customer demand, he will feel that there is no place to start.

For example, in a recent pop-up interview question, the interviewer first asked: how to find the nearest public parent node of the two nodes in the tree. At this time, the interviewer did not describe the features of the tree in the question. He hopes that the applicant will raise several questions after hearing the question, such as whether the tree is a binary tree or a common tree.

If the interviewer says it is a binary tree, the applicant can continue to ask if the tree is a binary tree sorted. The interviewer's answer is sorted. When I hear this, the applicant can determine the idea: traverse the tree from the root node of the book. If the current node is greater than the two nodes entered, the next step is to traverse the left subtree of the current node; if the current node is smaller than the two input nodes, the next step is to traverse the right subtree of the current node. When the current node is larger than the input node and smaller than the other node, the current node is the latest public parent node that meets the requirements.

If the applicant asks if the tree is a binary tree, the interviewer will answer any tree. At this time, the applicant can ask whether there is a pointer to the parent node in the tree node. The interviewer will give a positive answer. Because the node of the tree has a pointer to the parent node, starting from the input node, the pointer pointing to the parent node to the root node of the tree can be seen as a linked list, therefore, the solution for this question is the same as the solution for finding the first public node of the two linked lists.

We can see that the interviewer gives different conditions, which will be two completely different questions. If at first the applicant fails to figure out the interviewer's intention and immediately solves the problem, the result may be a thousand miles away. We can also see the importance of communication during the interview. When you feel that the conditions and requirements for the questions are not clear enough, you must ask more questions to eliminate your doubts.
