Controlling bandwidth optimizes ISA performance

When the network internal communication or communication with the Internet due to the increase in the number of people become more and more crowded, network performance began to deteriorate. Is there any good way, once the network resources are crowded, can some communication priority communication? This requires the use of control bandwidth tools.

Before configuring bandwidth, you need to specify the effective bandwidth of the Internet connection in ISA Management so that ISA Server can perform the bandwidth priority correctly. Effective bandwidth is the rate of data transfer that is actually available to network clients through a specific Internet connection (for example, dial-up and Green Line Internet connections).

Determine the maximum effective bandwidth for the ISA Server computer or array Internet connection, and view the value of the valid bandwidth for the connection by placing the mouse over the active connection icon in the taskbar's status area after the Internet connection is available.

Then open the ISA Management console, expand the array's nodes, and then expand the Policy Elements node. Click the dial-up Entries folder, and in the details pane on the right, double-click the current dial-up entry to eject the Online Properties dialog box.

Open the Bandwidth tab, and select the Bandwidth control check box. Then, in the ellective bandwidth (kbit/sec) text box, enter a valid bandwidth value (see Figure 4).

Set up effective bandwidth for Internet connections, and then we'll configure several bandwidth priorities that are available. Bandwidth priority is a policy unit that assigns a priority value between 1 and 200 for incoming and outgoing connections. The bandwidth priority is divided into the following two types:

Outbound bandwidth is the bandwidth priority assigned to an internal user for an Internet object request.

Inbound bandwidth is the bandwidth priority assigned to external users for requests for local network objects.

ISA server includes a built-in bandwidth priority, known as the default bandwidth poiority (priority for bandwidth). The default bandwidth priority is assigned a value of 100 for outbound and inbound bandwidth. Here we can first create a priority for our boss.

In ISA Management, open the Policy Elements node, right-click the bandwidth Priorities folder, point to New, and select bandwidth Priority to bring up the dialog box and fill in the value (see Figure 5).

This creates a bandwidth priority named Boss, with the outbound and inbound bandwidth priority set to 200. You can use this bandwidth priority when you configure the bandwidth rules later. After the priority is created, we set the bandwidth rules for the boss.

In the ISA Management console tree, right-click the "Bandwidth Rules" folder, point to "new", and then select Rule, which opens the New Bandwidth Rules Wizard. Create a rule named Boss, allow all time, any content of the request, and in the "Bandwidth Priorities" dialog box, do not forget to select the Boss this strategy (see Figure 6).

So we have a complete set up an optimized bandwidth rules, referring to the operation, and then according to the specific situation of network users, and then formulate some more detailed and specific priority, rules, when the network traffic increases, it can achieve the flow and bandwidth allocation and control.
