N900 Dual Boot (meego & maemo)

Source: Internet
Author: User

In the past few days, we can see that meego 1.1 has been released, and N900 can be started on both systems, so we can't wait to try it.

The following is the general experience: Reference: http://wiki.meego.com/ARM/N900/Install/Dual_Boot

In short:

1. Confirm that firmware of N900 has been updated to rp1.3
Method:

  Uname-

Linux Nokia-N9002.6.28-Omap1#1Preempt Fri Aug6 11:50:00Eest2010Armv7l unknown

2. Add repository extras-devel to Application Manager, install uboot-pr13, and check if installation is successful

3. Prepare the raw and vmlinuz Kernel File http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/meego-codedrop.php to be used to get down to meego-handset-armv7l-n900-final-mod-1.1.0.0.20101101.3-mmcblk0p.raw.bz2 and the corresponding kernel meego-handset-armv7l-n900-final-mod-1.1.0.0.20101101.3-vmlinuz-2.6.35.3-10.3-n900

4. Prepare a space of 1.9g for meego hand set if the micro SD card is larger than 2 GB.

  SudoFdisk-L

View the disk list:
The SD card content is shown as follows: (for reference only)

  Disk / Dev / Mmcblk0: 62 MB , 62783488 Bytes
4 Heads , 32 Sectors / Track , 958 Cylinders
Units = Cylinders 128 * 512 = 65536 Bytes
Sector size ( Logical / Physical ) : 512 Bytes / 512 Bytes
I / O size ( Minimum / Optimal ) : 512 Bytes / 512 Bytes
Disk identifier: Zero X 00000000

Device Boot Start End Blocks ID system
/ Dev / Mmcblk0p1 * 1 957 61232 6 Fat1

6. If the SD card has been mounted to the machine, unmount it. Decompress meego-handset-armv7l-n900-final-mod-1.1.0.0.20101101.3-mmcblk0p.raw.bz2 and write it to the SD card.

Note: Here it is/dev/mmcblk0 instead of/dev/mmcblk0p1. Here it is written to the entire device, not to a partition, wait ...... Then you can see

  475136 + 1 Records in
475136 + 1 Records out
1946157057 Bytes ( 1.9 GB ) Copied , 214.382 S , 9.1 MB / S

Output, OK

5. flash brush, install flasher-3.5, which is used to brush maemo series address before: http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/maemo-dev-env-downloads.php off N900, put into the SD card, and the host cap long bet 'U' key, while connecting USB cable, the USB symbol is displayed on the screen at the top right of N900. OK.

(Here we only load the kernel. If-F is used, it will be a flash machine, and there is no Dual Boot.) Just wait for the machine to restart.

6. In the future, the machine will automatically start from the MMC device, that is, the SD card, and naturally it will go into meego.
If you want to enter maemo, method 1 will not put the SD card, method 2 press any key before the boot time out, and then enter run noloboot

Summary:
After reading and performing some operations, let's not say anything. meego has a long way to go. According to the current degree of completion, it will go beyond Android and iOS. Hope is a bit slim.
