Therefore, it is inevitable that some people will not be able to modify grub easily, next I will introduce my experience in installing Ubuntu for beginners: first

Ubuntu 9.10 was finally released as scheduled on December 31, October 29. During this period, I believe most of the fans have installed it and become addicted to it! However, the hard disk is already Ubuntu 9.10, in addition, grub of this version has been upgraded to 1.97, which is somewhat different from the previous version. Therefore, it is inevitable that some people will not be able to modify grub easily, next I will introduce my experience in installing Ubuntu for the reference of new users:

First, you need to have the CD or DVD media of Ubuntu 9.10 that you want to install, and then put it in a disk partition. In this case, it is worth noting that, the DVD image of Ubuntu 9.10 has a size of nearly 4 GB, so it cannot be placed in the FAT partition. At this time, you can place the image file in the NTFS format partition, ubuntu supports NTFS partition hard disk installation as early as version 9.04! Two files are stored in the root directory of the partition. The ISO file of Ubuntu is also stored in the root directory of the partition (in the same partition as vmlinuz and initrd. lz ). Enter the sudo fdisk-l command on the terminal under Ubuntu to write down the Partition Number of the ISO file, such as/dev/sda * (* =, 5 ~~~~ N), and then restart the system.

When the system just started to display the grub menu, press the C key and the grub command prompt is displayed: grub>. At this time, you can run the ls command to view disk partitions, as shown below:

In earlier versions, if the Disk Partition Number/dev/sda * (* = 1, 2, 3, 4, and n) obtained by using the fdisk command on the terminal ), in this way, it should be (hd0, *) (* = 0, 1, 2, 3, n-1). However, in Ubuntu 9.10, it has changed (probably because grub has changed, but I don't know it). For example, the partition number you found is/dev/sda3, it should be expressed in (hd0, 3), and so on! Therefore, you can run the following command to start liveCD to install the system (in my computer, the partition where the ISO file is located/dev/sda3 ):

Grub> linux (hd0, 3)/vmlinuz boot = casper iso-scan/filename =/karmic-dvd-i386.iso ro quiet splash locale = zh_CN.UTF-8 (Press enter after entering)
