Runtime error: "stack around the variable... Was upted"

The code snippet that causes the problem is as follows:

Word var; scanf ("% d", & var );

 

The program that contains the above Code is compiled normally and receives user input data normally during running. However, when the program is running, the system prompts "stack around the variable VAR... Was upted ". I guess it is caused by a conflict between the storage length of VaR and the default input data type of scanf. VaR occupies 2 bytes in memory, while scanf occupies more space when writing data to the VaR address. When the program stops running, it will discover an error when releasing the stack?

Please enlighten me!
