  • Recently bought a new ThinkPad X240 computer, with a Win8 system, after a period of feeling very unaccustomed, a lot of shortcut keys are not the same, want to re-installed into the familiar Win7 system. This computer because it is thin type, no optical drive, can only be installed with a USB stick. Google first on the internet after some information, ready to do enough, but the installation process has encountered a lot of problems, fortunately, the final installation success, hereby recorded.

    The first step: Make Win7 start USB drive

    First, the download of an ISO-format Win7 installation image file, the original image or ghost version of the image is entirely dependent on personal interests. I downloaded the Win7 flagship 64-bit system.

    After the ISO file is ready, you will start making a bootable USB flash drive, and you need to prepare a USB flash drive of at least 4GB and format it as a FAT32 file system, note the file backup. Then find a computer to install UltraISO software, use the software to open the Win7 ISO image file previously downloaded, and then plug the USB stick into the computer, select "Start", "Write hard disk image" in the UltraISO software, select the USB flash Drive in the dialog box, then click "Write" Start making the startup USB drive.

    Step two: Change BIOS settings

    The way that different computers enter the BIOS may not be the same, Thinkpad X240 the way to enter is to press ENTER when the computer starts, and then press F1 to enter the BIOS.

    1. Modify secure boot to disable;

    2. Change uefi/legacy boot from Uefi only to both under boot or startup;

    3. Change the first boot entry in the boot sequence to USB HDD boot;

    Step three: Configuration in the installation process

    Insert the USB drive into the Win7 computer to be installed and start the computer, waiting for the Win7 installation interface to appear.

    When this interface appears, press SHIFT+F10 and the DOS command line interface appears:

    execute the DiskPart command in it, then execute the following command in the DiskPart run environment:

    1. Listpart (view system partition)

    2.select Disk 0 (select the first one)

    3.clean (remove all system partitions from the disk selected above)

    4.convert MBR (converted to MBR partition type)

    5.exit (quit DiskPart)

    6.exit (Exit DOS command line)

    After these steps, the original partition in the system has been deleted (please back up the data in advance), and the disk is converted to the MBR partition type for installing the Win7 system.

    Next, click "Install Now" to install the steps, but there is a serious error: "The required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or a driver for a USB flash drive, insert it immediately.

    At this point, the "Next" button is grayed out and the installation process is stuck here. Then hurriedly in the online search solution, online saying a lot, after a long time toss, finally found the reason and solution:

    Since the ThinkPad X240 USB interface is 3.0 version, so the installation of the system disk can not find the USB3.0 driver, so that the failure to identify the USB flash drive and error can not continue to install. Know the reason, the solution is simple, restart the computer and enter the BIOS, the USB3.0 set to disable, and then reboot the computer, you can successfully enter the installation interface.

    Fourth Step: Install the configuration Win7 system

    Next, the hard disk partition, set the time, set the user name password and other installation steps are skipped, relatively simple. After the system is installed successfully, the rest is to install the driver and some necessary software, download a driver wizard can be all done.

    At this point, Thinkpad X240 Notebook (no CD-ROM) from Win8 downgrade to Win7 the entire step to the end of the period, due to the problem of the driver can not find a long time, but finally the smooth fix.

    The entire process is hereby recorded for future use.
