Service providers are facing challenges in supporting IP Services, which requires that they can make existing networks have traffic engineering management. However, networks that mix multiple technologies need to be managed by their respective network management systems, causing great inconvenience in operations.
A pure IP network can implement traffic engineering based on the MPLS protocol, and obtain benefits by providing different services and controllable networks. We urgently need a network with a traffic engineering design. The network should be able to queue network resources according to traffic requirements, and create a deterministic network at a lower cost, and provide different business types through SLA. Therefore, in the next generation of IP networks, traffic engineering will become one of the most widely used MPLS protocols.
MPLS Multi-Protocol Label exchange integrates IP routing technology and ATM So that the above traffic engineering mode can be deployed in an IP-based network, including the mode in which the ATM Network carries the IP service. It allows you to create a path for the network data stream in advance. These reserved paths occupy special network resources. They can be manually set to an explicit path or automatically generate the optimal path as needed.
Basically speaking, MPLS is similar to the ATM technology. It is specially designed for IP addresses, but also supports different transmission media such as ATM and PoS. Mark the exchange path LSP). Data streams are mapped to the corresponding path based on traffic requirements and link bearer capabilities. The path through which the data stream is forwarded depends on the tag assigned to the data stream. Therefore, unlike the traditional IP address, the label in MPLS is used to transmit data packets in the network along the selected path. Currently, MPLS is available in two control protocols: CR-LDP and RSVP build paths, which are equally effective in supporting traffic engineering. In addition, both control protocols support implicit and explicit routing.
