VLAN network structure of Small Enterprises

As we know, the structure of an enterprise is complicated. They have different departments. Next we divide VLAN networks of a small enterprise by department. Assume that a small enterprise network has a Finance Department, channel department, server area, and other departments. Because the number of computers in a small enterprise network is not very large, the VLAN network is very flexible. We can adopt a subnet-based approach or a MAC address-based approach, you can also use a user-based VLAN, but these are implemented through software configuration in the vswitch and vro. In this network, the finance department and channel department can divide each Department into a VLAN network because of the small number of computers. The server area mainly depends on the number of servers. We must note that the data traffic in the server area is very large, and inter-VLAN communication relies on aggregation links, therefore, it is best to select a gigabit switch for the vswitch used in this zone to ensure normal communication between the server VLAN and other VLANs. VLAN definitions for other departments are very extensive. Due to many uncertainties in other departments, users can divide this department into multiple VLANs based on their specific circumstances.

Vrouters at the first layer play a very important role in the network. data between different VLANs in a small enterprise VLAN network is communicated through vrouters, but vrouters cannot divide VLAN networks, therefore, when selecting a vro, we should pay attention to the number of computers that can be taken, and other functions are very important for enterprise users. Note that when creating a VLAN network, we must set the port connecting the router to the vswitch on the second layer of the network as the aggregation port to achieve convergence link connection between the vro and the vswitch.

On the second layer of the network, we chose a Layer 2 Gigabit Switch. the Layer 2 switch mainly serves to connect the aggregation port, because the communication between VLANs must rely on the aggregation link for data flow, because each aggregation link needs to transmit data from all computers in a VLAN network, the data volume of each port of the switch is very large, so we chose a Layer 2 Gigabit Switch. To save costs, you can also select a Mbps switch with the aggregation function to converge their ports and connect them to the switch on the third layer of the network, the cost of doing so is to sacrifice the number of ports of the MB switch. If the number of purchased ports is small, it will cause inconvenience to the network upgrade in the future.

On the third layer of the network, Gigabit Switches are also selected in the server area, which is determined by the high network bandwidth requirements of the server area. For several other departments, we use traditional M switches. Because these switches are only responsible for connecting to the fourth-layer computers of the network, the requirements are not too high, we only need to consider the convergence link connection between the switch at this layer and the Gigabit Switch at the second layer.

The fourth layer of the network is the VLAN we divide. As for the VLAN division method, we mainly configure the vro and the vswitch. Although the fourth layer is the most basic network layer, this layer is very important. The large number of computers on this layer determines the choice of network products.
