Vswitch QoS application configuration: control your speed and bandwidth, master the following knowledge about vswitch QoS application configuration, you can easily select your preferred vswitch QoS application configuration method to back up the Cisco router. Many methods will make you suddenly enlightened.

For network users, network communication speed and network bandwidth are the two most important parameters. The speed directly determines the time for downloading and uploading data, thus directly affecting the network access efficiency such as page browsing; bandwidth is another measure of enterprise network usage. It is short for "band width. In a sense, the amount of bandwidth directly determines the network access efficiency.

In fact, users can draw an equal sign for bandwidth and speed. They are parameters to measure network transmission efficiency. But do you know the difference between speed and bandwidth in the QoS application configuration of the switch? When do we need to configure the port speed? When will it be more appropriate to set the bandwidth? Today, I will introduce the speed and bandwidth differences in the QoS application configuration of switches from my own experience.

Understanding speed and bandwidth from instruction settings:

Readers who have experience in configuring route switching know that we often use two parameters when configuring the QoS application of the switch. bandwith represents the bandwidth, and speed represents the speed. In actual configuration, we can use speed 100 to set the port speed to 2000 MB, and use bandwidth to set a port to 2 MB.

The speed and bandwidth are different in the QoS application configuration of the switch:

As mentioned above, we can configure the speed and bandwidth of the port separately through speed and bandwidth. What if we want to set the speed of a port to 100000 MB, can we use bandwidth? Or can I use speed 2 to specify the bandwidth limit of a port to 2 MB?

I believe that many readers have the same questions as me. In fact, the author's tests have found that no matter whether we use speed 100 or bandwidth 100000, in the end, the transmission speed of the port will not exceed 100 MB, which is equivalent to the speed limit. The two commands have the same effect. Similarly, when speed 2 or bandwidth 2000 is used, the bandwidth is set to 2 MB, and the network traffic speed will not exceed this limit.

Since both commands can set the network speed, are their functions the same? Or can they be used at will? The answer is no. They are different in some functions, which is why the routing switch manufacturer sets two commands for speed. In some cases, we must use the bandwidth command to set the port speed. In other cases, we need to use the speed command to limit the port transmission speed.

Dynamic Routing Protocol vswitch QoS application configuration:

Experienced network administrators know the importance of routing protocols in enterprise network communication. Through dynamic routing protocols, we can achieve automatic addressing of network packets, even if a network line fails, you can use the dynamic routing protocol to quickly find another new path for data transmission. Dynamic Routing Protocols greatly simplify the workload of network management and increase the flexibility in practical applications.

However, the "best" Path of the dynamic routing protocol is usually calculated by some algorithm. The possible considerations include load, reliability, MTU, latency, bandwidth, and so on. The bandwidth is set by the bandwidth command. To put it bluntly, we can use bandwidth to reduce the bandwidth value of a line when we think the transmission performance of a line is poor, so that the dynamic routing protocol does not give priority to this line when selecting a path.

The bandwidth setting command is used to modify the default bandwidth values of each line on each port in a wide range of applications. With this command, we can flexibly manage the Intranet, enables data packets to be transmitted in a more reliable path.

Setting the speed command to limit the port transmission speed does not affect the bandwidth value, and naturally does not affect the path selection. Therefore, for the path selection of dynamic routing protocol, bandwidth can be used to modify the path priority, and speed setting does not affect the selection of Dynamic Routing Protocol paths.

Vswitch QoS application configuration:

As we all know, configuring the service quality function for the QoS application of a vswitch can help us optimize Intranet traffic. Of course, there are many criteria for determining the QoS application configuration of a vswitch, such as optimizing the network service based on the priority of the network application, priorities are differentiated for IP addresses, MAC addresses, and other information. However, using the bandwidth value to differentiate service quality is also a means.

Therefore, bandwidth settings are useful in vswitch QoS application configuration. We can use the bandwidth setting command to configure the bandwidth value of a port, in this way, you can adjust the priority of QoS configuration in the vswitch to better manage intranet traffic.

Summary of vswitch QoS application configuration:

To sum up, although the two commands for literal understanding of bandwidth setting and speed setting are aimed at the actual transmission speed limit of the port, the significance in reality is very similar, however, in the logic layer, the bandwidth setting is more significant. It not only represents the interface bandwidth speed.

At the same time, he has also become an important standard for measuring the link selection of dynamic routing lines and the quality of service configuration for switch QoS applications. In the logic layer, bandwidth applications are more meaningful than speed settings, with the bandwidth setting, we can manage the Intranet more flexibly.
