Windows 10 subsystems are not non-Ubuntu
GuideUbuntu manufacturer Canonical has long been cooperating with Microsoft and has given us a very controversial Bash on Windows experience. The outside world is also mixed. Many heavy Linux users are questioning whether it is useful, and further think that Bash on Windows is a security risk.

Unix Bash is transplanted to Windows through the WSL (Windows Linux subsystem) feature. We have previously demonstrated installing Bash on Windows.

The Bash on Windows that Canonical cooperates with Microsoft is just a Ubuntu command line, not a formal graphical user interface.

However, there is a good phenomenon that Linux enthusiasts are beginning to invest their time and energy in it. Their achievements in WSL have even surprised the developers at the beginning. "Wait, is that true? ". This is gradually being implemented.

That's right, as shown in the Ubuntu Unity desktop running in Windows. A programmer named Pablo gonzarez (GitHub ID is Guerra24) has implemented this perfectly. With this implementation, he showed us that WSL has gone beyond the functions originally conceived.

If Ubuntu Unity can be run in the Windows subsystem, will other Linux distributions run far away?

Bash on Windows in Arch Linux

Running the complete Linux release version locally in WSL will be implemented sooner or later. What I want most is Arch Linux.

Hold and Hold. The project is still being tested. Developed by "mintxomat" on GitHub, the latest version is 0.6. The first stable version will be released by the end of December this year.

So what is the difference between the launch of this project?

You may have known that WSL is only available in Windows 10. However, Arch Linux (AWSL), a Windows Linux sub-system, has been successfully running on Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 (R2), and Windows 10.

How did they do it ?!

Its developers once said that the AWSL protocol abstracts various frameworks of different Windows versions. Therefore, when AWSL releases 1.0, it should achieve a higher score. As mentioned earlier, this project will first launch Bash on Windows to all Windows versions.

This project is ambitious and insightful. If you cannot wait for the stable version at the end of December, you can try its beta version first. But remember that it is still a Developer Preview, and it is not stable at the moment. However, when will we stop tossing?
