Some time ago, Ubuntu officially released a series of kernel upgrades, including Ubuntu 6.06 LTS and the full range version of Ubuntu 8.04 . If you are using Ubuntu 8.10 and have not yet upgraded these vulnerabilities, it is highly recommended that you quickly upgrade patches and install packages. Because the April 30 Ubuntu 8.10 Update and technical support will stop, the explanation is not able to enjoy directly from the official upgrade of the latest system patches, such as a series of services.

From the Ubuntu official mailing list,Ubuntu 8.10 will stop updating service and technical support on April 30, 2010. Ubuntu 8.10 official release on October 30, 2008, in the past 18 months Ubuntu is committed to continuously release the Ubuntu 8.10 Security patches and critical updates, now the support period is nearing the end. After April 30, 2010, Ubuntu Security and information updates will not include Ubuntu 8.10.

When it comes to installing Ubuntu, it's best to choose the LTS version, especially when installing the server. The Ubuntu release contains two versions, one is the LTS version and the other is a non-LTS version. The Ubuntu LTS version is released once every two years. Non-LTS versions are released every 6 months. The so-called LTS version is a long cycle support version, desktop version LTS enjoy 3 years of service and technical support, server version of the LTS to enjoy 5 years of service and technical support. Non-LTS version of the service is only 18 months. April 30 is exactly the date the Ubuntu 8.10 service was terminated.

And of course there's a version of technology and services that continues to enjoy the upgrade of existing Ubuntu to a higher version, and Ubuntu allows the operating system to be upgraded directly from a lower version to a higher version. However, if you have too many personalization settings in your operating system, the upgrade process may encounter some resistance. But I think it is worthwhile relative to the service.

Finally, it is recommended that you still use Ubuntu 8.10 friends to quickly update the system services and software, or upgrade directly to Ubuntu 10.04 , which will be the next LTS version, although beta but, desktop users can indeed try to use.
